Fans Leave Aubrey Plaza Uplifting Messages on Instagram Following Heartbreaking News

Fans have taken to Aubrey Plaza’s Instagram account to leave their condolences after news broke that her husband had died.

According to TMZ, Jeff Baena, who married Plaza in 2021, died by suicide at his home in Los Angeles, California.

Plaza’s most recent Instagram post was uploaded to the platform on December 24, 2024.

“Here’s our 2024 Evil Hag holiday card by Delaware artist @vik.art. Merry Witchmas and Haggy Holidays from Evil Hag,” read the post’s caption.

As of January 4, 2025, the comments section of that photo has turned into a memorial wall of sorts. At the time of this writing, Plaza had not addressed her husband’s death.

Plaza and Baena started dating in 2011, according to Us Weekly. In an interview with Ellen Degeneres in 2021, Plaza discussed tying the knot.

“I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature. Then the man from Alhambra showed up. I can’t remember a lot of it, it was fuzzy. But I’m pretty sure it was legal,” she joked, per Us Weekly.

“I send my condolences Aubrey I love you so much,” someone else wrote.

Aubrey Plaza Posted a Tribute to Her Husband in 2021

For the most part, Plaza and Baena kept their private life off of social media. Baena’s Instagram account appears to be private and Plaza rarely posted about her husband.

However, she gave him a special shoutout in 2021.

“So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble. Excited to be reunited with the amazing @alisonbrie (who also co-wrote this one!) and @theofficialsuperstar @sordociego @lauren_weedman and so many more fun people in this. Preparati!!” she captioned a photo an Instagram post after Deadline confirmed the production of “Spin Me Round.”

Per IMDb, this is the last project Baena worked on. The film, which was released in 2022, isn’t the only time that Baena and Plaza worked together. The 2014 film “Life After Beth” was also directed by Baena and starred Plaza.
