Did You Catch the SATC Easter Egg in the Latest Episode of ‘And Just Like That’?

There was a moment in the most recent episode of “And Just Like That” that may have felt a bit familiar for long-time “Sex and the City” fans, and not only was it intentional, but there was a little surprise in that scene. Even better, there are more surprises to come in future episodes of “And Just Like That.”

In last Thursday’s episode, Seema was seated in the bank with a loan officer named Linda, attempting to get a business loan so that she could open her real estate firm. The two bonded over their mutual frustration with men in positions of power in the workplace.

According to TV Line, if the loan officer looks familiar, it’s because she is. Stephanie Cannon played the same banker that Carrie Bradshaw once applied for a loan with on “Sex and the City.”

Bringing Back Stephanie Cannon Was Intentional

The powers-that-be knew exactly what they were doing when they brought the actress back again. “We were like, ‘We’ve gotta get Stephanie Cannon back.’ She lives in L.A. doing something else, but she flew in, and she’s our banker. The casting is “a little Easter egg for people who are paying attention,” says Executive Producer Julie Rottenberg.

EP Elisa Zuritsky told TV Line that “And Just Like That’s” showrunner Michael Patrick King, “goes way back with’ Cannon, ‘“and he loves nothing more than to pull something like that back. There will be other Easter eggs like that,” later this season, Zuritsky says.

Neither Carrie Nor Seema Got Their Loan

Fans of “Sex and the City” will likely remember the Season 4 SATC episode “Ring a Ding Ding,” which aired in 2002. At the time, Carrie’s apartment building was going co-op, and she went to the bank to apply for a loan to buy it, but Linda, the loan officer, cast a skeptical eye on her meager finances. Even though Carrie made more money than others who wrote for Vogue, she was still deemed by Linda “not a desirable candidate for a loan.”

A bit of comedic irony rolled in when the same woman at the same bank denied Seema’s application 23 years later. Linda may have agreed with Seema’s assessment of powerful men who run the business world, but she still wasn’t going to help her out financially.
