‘The Amazing Race’ Host Phil Keoghan says Viewers will Love the New Twists for the Latest Season

Fans of “The Amazing Race” will get their chance to enjoy another season of traveling the world from the comfort of the couch very soon.

The venerable reality competition series returns Wednesday, March 5 with a new cast and longer than ever episodes. Host Phil Keoghan teases what is coming up for viewers including the new run time and game changers throughout the season.

New Elements are Being Added to Spice things Up

Keoghan promises changes that he knows viewers will enjoy. For the first time in “The Amazing Race’s” history, there will be 14 teams joining the fray.

Along with hour and a half episodes, the show will include new obstacles like “Fork In The Road.” According to an interview the host did with TV Line, Keoghan says of “Fork In The Road:” “…the direction you choose could have major consequences on whether you are eliminated or not, and whether you actually do well or not.”

Keoghan said during an interview with CBS News Chicago that viewers can expect at least one “jaw dropping” surprise per episode.

During the same interview with CBS News, Keoghan elaborated on the new “Fork In The Road” element saying that seven teams will go in one direction while the other seven go in another. One team from both sides will be eliminated in the very first episode.

Expect a Few More Surprises Thanks to the Runtime

“And there will be a few other things throughout the season, some things that are returning that fans have seen before and then some other new elements that are there to add to the surprises,” he tells The Wrap. “The show is a surprise show. I mean, literally, every time they rip open an envelope, it’s a surprise.”

Contestants are set to travel to Hong Kong, Japan, and Dubai as well as other Eastern areas of the world. In another tease, Keoghan notes how much prestige contestants will have on each other.

“I really like that element, and it happens sort of towards the middle of the season,” he reveals to The Wrap. “I’m really interested to see how the audience reacts to it. It definitely stirs things up.”

Season 37 of “The Amazing Race” premieres Wednesday, March 5 at 9:30 PM ET/8:30 PM PT. Stream episodes on Paramount+.
