All good things must come to an end — and that includes Netflix’s biggest show of all time. The highly anticipated third and final season premieres June 27, 2025. Season 2 ended on a brutal cliffhanger. Fans are now eager to find out how the story of Player 456, the Front Man, and the deadly games will finally conclude.
Let’s dig deeper to see what season 3 has in store for us!
Will the Squid Game Finale Really Be the End? The Cast Weighs In
Despite Hwang’s uncertainty, the stars spoke at a recent press conference in London for Netflix and confirmed that the ending is indeed satisfying.

“He would also discuss it with me and the crew as well, but I believe that director Hwang came up with the most adequate, the most unpredictable, the most meaningful, and the most intriguing and entertaining ending possible. So personally, I am very happy with the finale, and you all are going to be able to see where it all ends soon, but I can guarantee you it’s not going to be what you think.”
Lee Jung-jae (Gi-hun) said, as reported by Gamesradar. “It’s not going to be what you think.”
And according to Front Man actor Lee Byung-hun, the ending might leave the door open for more.
“Director Hwang keeps saying it’s a finale, but when I first read it, I felt it could be a finale, [but] at the same time, it could be a new start,” he said. “I’m not sure about that, it’s my personal opinion, but if the audience’s love and support increases, we never know what happens.”
What Will Happen in Season 3?
Season 3 picks up after the bloody fallout of Gi-hun’s failed rebellion and Jung-bae’s death. The characters now face a pivotal crossroads.
“Now, what is he going to be like? What state will Gi-hun be in? And what will he choose to do?” Hwang told Variety in December. “Will he continue with the mission? Will he give up or persist? Gi-hun will not be the man he was in season 2.”
Netflix promises the stakes will only rise: “With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences.”
What’s Next for the Front Man — and the Players?
Front Man In-ho has shed his disguise as Player 001 and taken back complete control of the games. But his brother, Jun-ho, is still hunting for the island—unaware that a traitor lurks in his crew.
As Netflix teases: “Will Gi-hun make the right decisions, or will Front Man finally break his spirit?”
Several other questions remain: Will Hyun-ju confront the Pink Guards alone? Can Jun-ho’s team rescue the players, or will betrayal derail their mission? And what’s behind the Pink Guards’ secret smuggling operation? For now, creator Hwang isn’t giving anything away.
Who’s Returning for the Final Chapter?
Based on where Season 2 left off, fans can expect to see:
Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun (Player 456)
Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man
Wi Ha-joon as Hwang Jun-ho
Yang Dong-geun as Yong-sik (Player 007)
Kang Ae-shim as Jang Geum-ja (Player 149)
Kang Ha-neul as Dae-ho (Player 388)
Jo Yu-ri as Jun-hee (Player 222)
Yim Si-wan as Lee Myung-gi (Player 333)
Park Sung-hoon as Hyun-ju (Player 120)
Park Gyu-young as No Eul (one of the Pink Guards)
Netflix hasn’t confirmed any new cast members, but more surprises could still be on the way.
When Will The Season 3 of ‘Squid Game’ Premiere?
Squid Game Season 3 premieres June 27, 2025, on Netflix. Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back so that fans won’t face another long wait.

“It’s better than season 2,” Hwang told the Associated Press.
Is This Truly the End of Squid Game — or Could There Be More?
When Netflix first renewed Squid Game for a third season, Hwang teased: “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and the Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale.”
Whether the story truly ends — or sparks a new beginning — remains to be seen. But as Lee Jung-jae put it: “The ending is something you really cannot expect.”
