Is Lucas Bravo Really Returning for ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5?

Lucas Bravo is back—and so is the drama. Gabriel is not ready to hang up the chef’s coat in “Emily in Paris”.

After months of speculation, Emily in Paris creator Darren Star has confirmed that Lucas Bravo will return for Season 5. So, fans who feared they’d seen the last of the swoony chef, Gabriel, be ready for more twists and turns.

In a new interview with Deadline, Star said Bravo is back and hinted at more romantic twists to come.

“Her love life is always complicated,” Star said. “We have Marcello, Lucas Bravo is going to be back this season, so we have some interesting, surprising developments in terms of her love life.”

Bravo, 37, had raised eyebrows last year after publicly expressing frustration with his character’s arc. But according to Star, it was never as dramatic as fans thought. “Just a misunderstanding,” he explained. “I think he was never intending not to come back.”

What’s Happening in Season 5?

Season 5 is currently filming in Europe. Lucas Bravo has returned as Gabriel, the brooding, soulful chef.

He remains a lingering presence in Emily’s love life, even as she begins a new chapter in Rome with a promotion and a budding romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).

Lucas Bravo Was Open About His Frustrations

Last October, Bravo openly questioned the direction of his character. “Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series,” he told Le Figaro. “I do not want to be a part of a cog that does not tend to take the intelligence of viewers into consideration.”

He also wished for Gabriel to show more “panache.” In another interview with IndieWire, Bravo said he had “grown apart” from the character. “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in season 1, and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take,” he explained. Bravo added: “I’ve never been so far away from him.”

Lucas Bravo Once Questioned His Future on ‘Emily in Paris’

In October 2024, Bravo admitted he wasn’t sure about returning:

“It makes me question if I want to be part of season 5 — because my contract ends at season 4. I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It’s a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I’m just slowly sinking into god knows what.”

Months later, Bravo struck a more positive tone. On a red carpet this April, he said Season 5 is shaping up to be the best yet:

“I had lunch with Darren a few days back, and he told me a bit without telling me too much. I think fans are going to lose it. It’s the craziest one so far.”

Lucas Bravo’s Real-Life Romance

Off-screen, Bravo’s love life is also making headlines. He’s dating actress Shailene Woodley — and happily sharing glimpses of their relationship on Instagram.

According to People, the couple sparked dating rumors in March after being spotted showing public affection during a trip to Paris. By May, Bravo posted his first Instagram photo with Woodley, 33, at the Stagecoach Festival.

Before Woodley, Bravo kept his dating life mostly private. But in a 2020 interview with Glamour, he did share this relationship insight:

“I like communication. It’s the basis of everything. I don’t like when there is an elephant in the room and the person chooses to just run away or slam the door or sit in a corner with their baby face on. I don’t like pouting or when someone avoids a conversation.”

With new twists, fresh romance, and Gabriel’s charm back in the mix, Emily in Paris is just getting started.

Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Emily in Paris Season 5 just yet. Season 4 Part 2 dropped in September 2024, so fans might have to wait a little longer.

Production is officially underway, with filming kicking off in Rome—just as Deadline previously reported for an early 2025 window.
