‘Building the Band’ Dedicates Series to Liam Payne With a Beautiful Tribute

Liam Payne’s presence looms large in Netflix’s newest music series. Not just as a judge, but as a beloved voice that was taken too soon.

In a touching moment that sets the tone for the show, “Building the Band” opens with a powerful tribute to the late “One Direction” star. In the tribute, the team honors both his passion for music and his lasting impact on everyone around him.

In the premiere episode, host AJ McLean dedicates the series to the late Liam Payne, who died in October. “When we came together to film Building the Band, we never imagined we’d soon be saying goodbye to our friend Liam Payne,” McLean says in the heartfelt introduction.

“Liam is a guest judge in later episodes, and through his presence, we see his deep love for music and his unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice. It’s through that spirit that we dedicate this series to Liam and his family.”

Inside the Format of ‘Building the Band

Building the Band” brings a fresh twist to music competition shows by prioritizing the chemistry and connection between performers. Contestants first meet and develop their bands by communicating from behind a wall—reminiscent of Netflix’s Love Is Blind—before coming face-to-face to test their musical synergy.

The first four episodes of “Building the Band” are now available to stream on Netflix. Three additional episodes will premiere on July 16, followed by the final batch on July 23.

You can watch Liam’s full episodes in this upcoming stretch, poignant appearances that now serve as a celebration of his musical legacy and generous spirit.
