A film chronicling the life and love of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne is still moving forward despite the rock icon’s recent passing, according to Polygram Entertainment, per Rolling Stone.
The project was originally teased in 2020 and will explore the couple’s 43-year marriage alongside Ozzy’s legendary music career.
Biopic About Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne Remains in Development
In 2021, Sony officially announced plans to produce a movie centered on Ozzy Osbourne’s decades-spanning love story with his wife and longtime manager, Sharon.
Now, four years later, a representative for Polygram has confirmed to Variety that the team is currently in talks with a director, and negotiations are expected to finalize soon.
The biopic is a collaboration between Sony, Osbourne Media, and Polygram Entertainment. As reported by The New York Post, Sharon Osbourne, along with two of the couple’s children—Jack and Aimee—were previously named as producers.
According to People, “Rocketman” screenwriter Lee Hall will write the screenplay and will include original music from Ozzy’s solo work and his time as the frontman of Black Sabbath.
A Tribute Amid Loss
The update comes just weeks after Ozzy Osbourne died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday, July 22. He was 76.
The late singer had struggled with several health issues in recent years. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003 but did not publicly disclose it until 2020. In 2019, he suffered a serious fall in his Los Angeles home that required neck surgery.
According to a death certificate obtained by The New York Times, his cause of death was listed as “out-of-hospital cardiac arrest” and “acute myocardial infarction.”
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the family told People in a statement. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Sharon, 72, and their children—Louis, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack—said their goodbyes during a private funeral procession held in Birmingham, England, on Wednesday, July 30.
Ozzy’s final performance came on July 5, when he performed seated from a throne during Black Sabbath’s farewell concert in Birmingham. It marked his return to the stage after two decades and served as a poignant send-off to the band that made him a household name.
The forthcoming biopic now carries additional emotional weight, capturing a love story and career that left a permanent mark on rock history.
