Nick Lachey Reflects on Reality TV Past With Jessica Simpson

Nick Lachey opened up about his days on reality TV with his ex-wife Jessica Simpson.

The 2003 MTV show “Newlyweds” ran for three seasons and followed the two as they navigated their new marriage.

The 51-year-old rarely discuses his time on the show, but decided to reflect while speaking with host Vivian Tu on a May 27 episode of “Richer Lives.”

Lachey recalled how he wanted to use the show to promote the singing career of both himself and Simpson.

“You know, my ex-wife had an album coming out, [I] had an album coming out, I’ll do a little six-episode thing to promote the album,” Lachey reflected on what he was thinking at the time.

“We had no idea it was going to take on this other life of being this reality fly-on-the-wall type of show. So that was totally unexpected,” he added.

The 98 Degrees frontman explained he had no idea the show would blow up the way it did.

Lachey and Simpson ended up divorcing in 2006.

Lachey Says You Quickly Get Used to the Cameras

While Lachey said you get used to cameras fast, he added that he loved to talk to the crew and refused to stop when he was asked to not talk to them.

“I remember at first they were like, ‘Don’t talk to the crew. They’re a fly on the wall!’” he said. “And I was like, ‘Guys, if this is ever going to work, that’s just not how I’m wired. You’re not going to be in my house and watch my every move and we’re not going to talk to each other. We got to get past that right now.’”

The singer recalled crying after the show wrapped, and the crew would no longer be around. He said they became like family.

Lachey Hosts ‘Love Is Blind’ With His Wife Vanessa

Lachey went on to find love again after his divorce from Simpson and married model Vanessa Lachey in 2011.

The two have gone on the host Netflix’s incredibly popular shows “Love Is Blind” and “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On.”

Lachey revealed how the two have been able to maintain their spark in a July 2022 interview with TODAY.

He said they have been in couples counseling since the beginning, and it has allowed for active listening which helps the two parents their children.

The hosting couple are the proud parents of Camden, Brooklyn and Phoenix.
