Miley Cyrus and her mother, Tish Cyrus, had a confusing start to Mother’s Day weekend as they became embroiled in rumors of a feud.
Speculation was sparked by eagle-eyed fans who picked up on the fact that Tish, 58, was no longer following the “Hannah Montana” star on Instagram.
Miley Cyrus, who is no longer following anyone, took to her own Instagram page to clear up the drama and reassure fans that she and her mother are still on good terms.
“I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us,” Cyrus started her message.
She went on to call her mother her “best friend,” before revealing the real reason for the unfollowing: “She doesn’t know how to work her phone.”
Cyrus attributed all the drama to a simple misunderstanding, saying her mother “somehow unfollowed me.” She called the incident “coincidental and uninteresting.”
E! News reports that Tish Cyrus also responded to the situation, commenting, “I would never unfollow Miley, her and I are as close as we’ve always been.” She also said she had no idea how the unfollowing happened, but declared “it’s fixed now.”
Miley Cyrus Shared Where She Stands With Her Dad Billy Ray
In the same post, Cyrus gave fans an update on how things are going with her father and former “Hannah Montana” costar, Billy Ray Cyrus.
Cyrus famously unfollowed her father in December 2022, and he stopped following her as well. Now, in May 2025, Cyrus seems keen to put the bad blood in the past. A portion of her revealing Instagram post read, “My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing.”
Some fans believed the trouble between Cyrus, 32, and her father could have stemmed from his sudden marriage to Australian singer-songwriter Firerose, whom he began dating around the same time his alleged feud with Miley hit the news.
Hailey Bieber Previously Cleared Up Rumors of ‘Unfollowing’ Justin
Stars know by now that fans keep an eagle-eyed watch on who follows whom on social media, and Instagram is the platform that seems to get the most attention. Miley’s clarification that her mother never intentionally unfollowed her comes less than a month after the a similar drama played out between Justin Bieber and his wife Hailey.
The Canadian superstar deleted his Instagram account and upon his return, he no longer appeared on his wife’s “following” list.
Hailey Bieber quickly responded to the reports, writing in a TikTok comment, “It’s a glitch. Didn’t unfollow him. Hope this helps!” People Magazine published a screenshot of the model’s clarification.
