Mariah Carey, who is gearing up to release a new album, is considered one of the greatest singers of all time. In addition to her talent, one of the most enduring qualities about Mariah has always been her whimsical nature. This includes her unwillingness to celebrate or even acknowledge birthdays.
Now, she’s opening up about her reasoning behind this. According to PEOPLE, Mariah Carey recently appeared on a U.K. Radio Show to promote her new single, “Type Dangerous.” While there, they asked if it was true that she actively rejects the passage of time. Mariah responded, “That is true.”
She continued, “I just don’t believe in it.” Mariah then confirmed that she didn’t mean time zones; instead, she doesn’t “believe” in time itself. The interviewer then asked if this also meant she doesn’t own any clocks, and she said, “Yeah. No, just let it go.”
Regarding how she handles her schedule and showing up to engagements, she quipped, “Yeah, I would have someone call you and figure it out.”From there, the topic of birthdays arose. According to the “We Belong Together” singer, “I don’t have a birthday, no. Anniversaries, yes.”
Mariah Carey Is Back on the Charts and Has a New Album on the Way
Mariah Carey released her new single, “Type Dangerous,” on June 6th. She did so after teasing the new song on social media in the days leading up to its release. Notably, the teasers for the song also confirmed that her 16th album is forthcoming.
Regarding “Type Dangerous,” Mariah recently released its accompanying music video, which perfectly encapsulates the whimsical singer fans have always loved. It even features an appearance from Mr. Beast.
According to Billboard, the song debuted at number 95 on the Hot 100 chart, marking her 50th entry. While this may sound low, it should be noted that her mega-hit, “We Belong Together,” entered at number 81 but later climbed its way up and became the song of the decade.
The ‘Elusive Chanteuse’ Is Signed to a New Record Label
Mariah Carey’s most recent album, “Caution,” was released on Epic Records. However, the singer and songwriter has since parted ways with the company and signed with Gamma, an indie record company. Larry Jackson, a founding member of BEATS Music, is behind the company.
Mariah told Forbes about the new partnership, “What Larry Jackson is building at Gamma is beyond music. It’s a cultural shift.” She went on, “I’m excited to be part of something that honors legacy while pushing boundaries. This next chapter is about owning my narrative and creating freely on my own terms.”
Notably, legendary producer LA Reid will work with Mariah Carey on her upcoming album. Mariah signed a multi-album deal with the company.
