Lizzo Gets Real About Weight Loss and Compliments

Despite losing weight, Lizzo is still self-conscious when she notices people staring at her. Instead of thinking, “they’re looking at me because I’m famous,” she wonders if they’re looking at her because she’s bigger.

“I’m still in a bigger body, I’m just not as big as I was,” Lizzo said on her “Just Trish” podcast interview.

Lizzo admits that at her lightest or heaviest, she’s always been “a little dysmorphic.” Even though she knows she looks “Good as Hell,” the singer admits she’s still processing her new self.

Lizzo Reacts to Being Told That She Looks ‘So Little’

When Trish told Lizzo that she looks “so little,” the “Truth Hurts” singer didn’t know what to say. “I will process that later tonight,” she responded. “But I feel like I’m still in a bigger body comparatively. But I’m also in a smaller body comparatively. So I’m in a really weird spot. I don’t really know how to function.”

This prompted Trish to ask if it’s easy for her to accept compliments on her weight loss. “I feel like I worked really, really hard, and it was intentional with what I did with my body,” Lizzo explained. “So when I get compliments, I’m like, ‘Thanks.’ Like, I really receive it, because I need to receive it. I don’t take it any weird way because I tried to do this.”

“For me, I worked so hard for it, and the people who compliment me see me working hard for it,” she continued. “They’ve seen me exercising every day, and walking, and doing this. So when they say, ‘I’ve seen the hard work you’ve put in, I’m really proud of you.’ Yes [I can accept the compliment].”

Lizzo Weighs in on Internet’s ‘Weird’ Reaction to Her Weight Loss

One aspect of life that hasn’t changed for the “Juice” singer is her complicated relationship with social media. “The internet, all of a sudden respecting my music because I’m smaller, I’m like, ‘wait a minute!'” she said. “I’ve seen some weird comments on the internet now. It’s like, ‘oh, now you hear me, now you see me because I’m smaller.’ That’s a little weird, but it comes with it.”

Later, they discussed how, even after losing weight, Lizzo continues to face criticism. “I just feel like people just like to make fun of fat people,” the singer said. “Whether you’re big or small, or you got small, they like to make fun of us.”

She also told Trish that she stopped being vegan when she realized the fake meats weren’t helping her diet. “When I started actually eating whole foods and eating, like, beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of like, fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up,” she admitted.

While Lizzo acknowledged that she “tried everything,” she echoed statements she’s made in the past. “It’s just the science for me,” she confirmed. “Calories in versus calories out.” While weight loss drugs can help you eat less, for her, “you can just do that on your own, and get mind over matter. It’s the same.”
