Just because it’s a holiday weekend doesn’t mean good music isn’t available.
One of the industry’s most colorful artists is back with her first new album in two years. That may sound like a short time but it could be a lifetime in today’s age of TikTok hits.
Below are the two but mighty new releases available to listen to this week.
Kesha – “(Period)”
Five singles may be too many for a record that clocks in at 38 minutes but Kesha can pull it off. “Period” is her sixth album and first release that isn’t under Dr. Luke, RCA Records and Kemosabe Records. It’s a milestone for the artist who started her own label – aptly named Kesha Records. They’ll distribute with Alternative Distribution Alliance, a Warner Music Group subsidiary.
The album is more pop fun from the singer who thrives in the subject matter. Kesha draws from many elements of the genre from dance-pop to EDM. She even channels country-pop star Shaboozey with her take, “Yippee-Ki-Yay.”
Alexandre Desplat – “Jurassic World Rebirth” Soundtrack
Universal Studios’s Back Lot Music announced the tracklist for this record on June 26, 2025. A few days later on July 2, it was released in full along with a single titled “Boat Chase.” There’s something of a push being made here. It could be that Universal sees this as their Hans Zimmer-esque release for the summer.
Desplat has worked on a good number of moody movies including “The Ides of March” and the final two “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” movies.
“Rebirth” is another reinvention of the “Jurassic Park” franchise. It’s big and bold and stars two big, award nominated actors in Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johanson. Preliminary reviews paint it as better than the last three in the “World” section of the franchise. Not to mention people really like to see these dinosaurs cause damage. Regardless, the album is pretty exciting and paints a picture of what viewers can expect from the film itself.
