Bruce Springsteen Weighs in on ‘E Street’ Cover Band

Music legend Bruce Springsteen has opened up about what he thinks about a prominent “E Street” cover band.

The band, called the “EZ Street” band, is led by actor Hank Azaria.

According to People, Azaria and Springsteen performed Springsteen’s classic hit “Dancing in the Dark” on the TODAY Show.

The website for the band quotes Azaria as saying that he “had the crazy idea that I would like to sing some Springsteen songs to surprise people at my 60th birthday party.”

“So Azaria called his son’s former jazz piano teacher, Adam Kromelow, who played in a Genesis tribute band, and asked him if he could put together a band,” the website says, adding, “At first I wasn’t sure I could capture Bruce’s singing voice– talking like him is no problem, I mean, that’s my day job!”

During the TODAY Show appearance, Azaria confided of Springsteen, “He heard about it. He and his wife Patti and I, we share a dentist friend.”

He revealed that Springsteen “texted me one day” and wanted to see Azaria’s”favorite video” of the band.

“I sent them ‘Thunder Road,'” he said. “If I knew Patti was in his chair at the time, I wouldn’t have sent it. But apparently she liked it, she showed it to Bruce,” Azaria said on the show.

Azaria added of Springsteen himself, “I heard he liked it. I hope so. I do hope so.”

Hank Azaria Gives His Bruce Springsteen Cover Band Profits to Charity

Azaria also revealed during the TODAY Show appearance that he donates the cover band’s profits to charity.

“To cheer myself up, I said I’m gonna throw a reverse surprise party, tell all my friends — most of them are Springsteen fans — that I had a cover band coming, didn’t tell them that I was working for months to be the frontman, surprised them with it and we raised a lot of money that night for charity,” he said. “It went well, so we’re still doing it,” he said on the show.

The website of his Four Through Nine Foundation explains, “Our foundation is committed to creating a lasting impact by empowering communities and investing in education and well-being.”

The website quotes Azaria as saying, “My wife Katie and I started the 4 Through 9 Foundation in 2021 with an eye to addressing challenges facing our society relating to education, social justice, the environment and physical and mental wellness.”

The website notes, “Since its origins, the Four Through Nine Foundations has donated grants to many organizations who prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion, education, social justice, the environment, and physical and mental wellness.”
