Britney Spears Quietly Announced Unexpected New Project Is in the Works

In the caption of an Instagram post she shared the week of August 7, pop princess Britney Spears revealed she is at work on a new project. The star’s most recent album, “Glory,” dropped in 2016, and since then, the star has turned her attention to book writing.

The “Toxic” singer released her 2023 memoir, “The Woman In Me,” to great fanfare, and now she says she is writing two more books. Read on for details.

Britney Spears Said She Is Writing Two Fiction Books

As of publishing on August 12, Britney Spears has deleted all her the captions from her Instagram posts, but Parade documented the artist’s book announcement before it was gone. The outlet says Spears reflected, “It feels good to depart into writing. To dream, marvel and understand the power of the imagination and how it’s so incredibly important for children to always know they can do whatever they put their minds to!!!” after saying she was writing two fiction books.

Variety says Spears’ previous book was a smashing success, selling over a million copies the first week of its release. The star had wanted to write a book for years. In the 2009 MTV documentary “For the Record,” which was filmed at the beginning of the entertainer’s highly controversial conservatorship, she told the camera, “I’ll write a book one day. A good, mysterious book.”

In interviews for the documentary, the megastar touched on what she hoped to share. “There’s a lot that people don’t know about me that I want them to know,” before later adding, “A lot of things that go on with me aren’t right. And that’s where I get a little jaded.”

Many fans pointed out how thoughtful and composed Spears appeared in the clips, with one writing, “She was clearly and obviously not incompetent.”

Four years after the release of “Glory,” Spears’ son revealed in an Instagram Live chat that the superstar told him, “I might just quit it” when he brought up her music career, after saying “I haven’t seen her doing a lot of music at all.”

The then-13-year-old told his followers he replied, “What are you saying?” before reminding his mother how much “bank” she makes off her work.

The last time Spears released a musical track was her 2022 “Hold Me Closer” collaboration with Elton John.

The Guardian says John revealed that Spears “sang fantastically” while recording her parts of the song at the home studio of producer Andrew Wyatt. “Everyone was saying they don’t think she can sing any more. But I said, she was brilliant when she started so I think she can. And she did it, and I was so thrilled with what she did,” he said.

The “Rocket Man” hitmaker also reflected on Spears’ early career, saying she put out “incredibly brilliant records” and “sang and danced so beautifully.”

He also revealed in the interview that despite sometimes sharing an apartment block with the superstar while their Vegas residencies were going on at the same time, he and Spears “didn’t really see each other.” This might have been due to Spears’ conservatorship, which she said in her memoir kept her extremely isolated from its star in 2008. She wrote that the arrangement caused her to “lose pieces of what made me feel like myself” and made her “like a robot.”
