A major star of Netflix’s gritty series “Adolescence” is stepping into a pivotal role in the highly anticipated Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere“.

Stephen Graham, best known for playing Eddie Miller in the hit show, will portray Bruce’s father, Douglas Springsteen — a complex figure in the music icon’s life — as the film explores Springsteen’s early struggles and rise to fame.
A Complicated Father-Son Relationship at the Heart of the Story
The film centers on the creation of Springsteen’s haunting 1982 album Nebraska, recorded on a simple 4-track recorder in his New Jersey bedroom.
The raw, emotional acoustic record remains one of his most beloved works, known for its deep connection with listeners navigating their hardships.
At the heart of “Deliver Me From Nowhere” is Springsteen’s complex relationship with his father, a central storyline in the film.
In a new trailer released June 18, Graham appears alongside Jeremy Allen White. White stars as a young Bruce, navigating the pressures of impending stardom and the lingering demons of his past.
Springsteen’s Reaction moved Stephen Graham
Speaking on Edith Bowman’s Soundtracking podcast, Graham shared a touching message he received from the rock legend after seeing an early cut of the film.
“He’s a working-class hero. He’s an icon to thousands, to millions,” Graham said. “And his text just said: ‘Thank you so much. You know, my father passed away a while ago and I felt like I saw him today. Thank you for giving me that memory.’ I was crying reading the text… oh mate, it was beautiful. You couldn’t ask for anything more, you know? To share that with someone was gorgeous. He’s a lovely man.”
Jeremy Allen White Gets Support From Springsteen
White, fresh off his Emmy-winning run on “The Bear”, praised the team helping him prepare to portray the music icon on-screen.
“I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing,” White told GQ. “I’m also really lucky Bruce is really supportive of the film, and so I’ve had some access to him — and he’s just the greatest guy.”
Springsteen himself had high praise for White’s portrayal. “He’s a terrific actor,” Springsteen said in a recent interview. “He sings very well. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognise and he’s just done a great job. I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
Star-Studded Cast for an Iconic Story
In addition to Graham and White, the film’s trailer showcases a strong ensemble cast including Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffmann, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz.

Deliver Me From Nowhere is set to premiere in theaters on October 24.
