‘Spider-Man’ 4: Vincent D’Onofrio Responds to All Those Kingpin Rumors

Marvel fans have been buzzing about the possibility of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin squaring off against Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the upcoming film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” But according to the actor himself, fans may be getting ahead of themselves.

Vincent D’Onofrio Addresses Spider-Man 4 Speculation

When an MCU fan asked D’Onofrio directly on X (formerly Twitter) if he could confirm Kingpin’s rumored involvement in “Spider-Man 4,” the actor kept it short: “Honestly, I have no idea.”

That response isn’t the confirmation fans were hoping for, but it does shed light on how complicated Kingpin’s future really is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. D’Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, in “Daredevil: Born Again” season 2, which is set to arrive in March 2026. At that point, his character will return as Mayor Fisk.

Still, the actor has been transparent about the challenges Marvel faces in moving Kingpin from television to film.

D’Onofrio Explains Kingpin’s Complicated Character Rights

During an appearance on the “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast, D’Onofrio explained that character rights complicate Kingpin’s future in the MCU.

“The only thing I know is not positive. It’s a very hard thing to do, for Marvel to use my character. It’s a very hard thing to do, because of ownership and stuff,” he revealed. “Right now, I’m only usable for television series. Different kinds of series, whatever it is, but not even a one-off Fisk movie or anything like that, it’s all caught up in rights and stuff. I don’t know when that would work out, or if it ever would work out at all, actually.”

This isn’t the first time D’Onofrio has had to temper fan expectations. When an aggregator account recently claimed he was confirmed for “Spider-Man 4,” the actor quickly shut it down himself. “Is that right? Well no one has told me,” he replied in the comments.

Despite the uncertainty, fans continue to hope that Kingpin will eventually battle Spider-Man on the big screen. After all, Fisk was originally introduced as a villain in the Spider-Man comics before becoming one of Daredevil’s greatest foes. With Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock already making his MCU film debut in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” having Kingpin follow suit would be a fitting callback.

“Spider-Man 4” is scheduled to swing into theaters July 24, 2026.
