It’s about to get UGLY on HGTV, and that’s not a bad thing!
The network will debut season six of “Ugliest House in America” Monday, June 2 at 9:00p.m. ET with a second episode directly following at 9:30p.m.
And it looks like show host, comedian Retta, won’t have a hard time coming up with ways to make viewers laugh about the extreme homes. HGTV bills season six as its ugliest yet.
In a press release, HGTV says, “The ugly is back with a vengeance in six new episodes of HGTV’s mega hit Ugliest House in America. After attracting 10.3 million viewers to her last season, actress, comedian and home design enthusiast Retta will discover the most extreme variety of ugly houses yet, traveling the country to tour 15 more weird, dysfunctional and downright disastrous homes nominated by their owners.”
Ugliest Houses Yet Are Beautiful Opportunity for Retta
Show host Retta is ready to bring her over-the-top humor to all that ugly.
In a press release, Retta said, “I’m back looking at ugly houses in America babeee!.” And she makes no bones about why. “Look, between that months long SAG strike and the current uncertainty of the market, Mama needs the work. This mortgage won’t pay itself.”
Retta recently sat in on comedian Tom Papa’s “Breaking Bread” podcast. There she described walking into the basement of one ugly house. She said she was hit with a smell so bad, her reaction was, “we gotta get the *expletive* out of here!”
“It’s going into strangers’ homes, which can be cool because I’m nosy. But it’s also like ‘how long can I hold my breath?’… If you pay attention, you can see me sweating and about to pass out,” she said laughing.
But she gets no sympathy from the crew. Retta told Tom Papa she’ll look at her producer wide-eyed. And she gets back, “we were here first, we’ve been in here longer than you!”
Episodes One and Two Focus on Midwest and Great Lakes
HGTV’s episode guide for “Ugliest House in America” says episode one will focus on three ugly homes in the Midwest. writing, “It’s between a concrete cave better suited for children than adults, a former bank and an outdated brick house that looks like a pizza place.”
Episode two takes Retta and crew to the Great Lakes region, where HGTV writes, “It’s between a house that looks like a boat, a home with carpet up the walls and a place that looks like a UFO.”
The Ugliest House Is In for a Gorgeous Makeover
Once Retta finishes her national tour to find the worst of the worst, each home on the show will be ranked by ugly appearance, poor functionality and hideous design choices. The house that scores the worst overall will be crowned the “Ugliest House in America.”
But it won’t stay that way.
That home will get a $150,000 renovation by designer and new “Rock the Block” champion Alison Victoria.
