“Rock the Block” host Ty Pennington has found a creative way to bring back his original mega-hit show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
The HGTV star has revived the series by letting fans step into the show via video game.
In a new video posted to his Instagram account, Ty writes, “Finding yourself missing the original Extreme Makeover: Home Edition? 🤓 Feeling nostalgic for the early 2000’s? Craving an escape that doesn’t involve social media?! Check out the official Extreme Makeover: Home Edition game 🥳 A super fun game where you match objects, demo and help build dream houses for deserving families 🙌🏼 Best of all?! It’s FREE to play!!! Download for free in your app store”
At the beginning of the video- real-life Ty looks at the camera and says “Guys, they need your help.” Ty then transforms into a cartoon version of himself complete with the spiky hair viewers came to know and love on both “Trading Spaces” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
The video game features Ty’s famous and familiar catch phrases including, “Let’s get to work!” and of course the all-important signal that it was time for the reveal, “Bus driver, move that bus!”
New Game Let’s You Be the Designer
The new game puts you in the designer’s seat. Ty describes it as “super fun.”
The show the game is based on, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” ran on ABC for ten seasons from 2003 to 2012.
For the uninitiated, the show featured families in crisis facing difficult living situations whose homes were then renovated in one week.
New Version of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ Didn’t Include Ty
A new version of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” started airing on ABC in January 2025, without Ty Pennington as host.
Which he claims he’s “fine” with.
In an Instagram post on his account in March, Ty posted a video of himself lip-syncing to an audio clip from “Friends.” The audio is from the scene where Ross (David Schwimmer) tells Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) that he’s totally “fine” with them dating.
Reenacting the scene, Ty mouths, “I’m fine! Totally fine! I don’t know why it’s coming out all loud and squeaky, ’cause really… I’m fine!”
The caption over the video reads, “When someone asks me why I’m not on THAT 👀 show.” And in the post, Ty wrote, “No, really, I’m FINE! 😅📢🏚️”
His hashtags in the post revealed even more about his feelings. They included “#jk #itsallgood #nohardfeelings #thatsshowbizbaby #emhe #extrememakeoverhomeedition #extremehomemakeover #movethatbus #rightoverme #funny #reels”
But other HGTV stars were not fine with it. “No Demo Reno” host Jenn Todryk commented, “But WE’RE not fine with it! 😂”
“Battle on the Beach” co-star Taniya Nayak wrote, “Haaaaa! Laughter always wins. And you my sweet friend are winning 🌟”
