Tarek & Heather El Moussa’s Reno Plans Revealed

Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa have been giving fans little glimpses of renovations on their brand new $5.2 million dollar home since they moved in over the July 4 weekend.

But now we have a much clearer picture of exactly what renovations they’re taking on, and how much it’s costing.

A new article by the U.S. Sun takes a look at all the construction permits filed by the HGTV stars to break down their renovation job by job.

Believe it or not, “The Flip Off” stars’ bottom line only adds up the a little more than $32,000 in renovations, but of course being in the industry, the pair are able to cut costs using their own workers and buying materials directly.

According to permits obtained by the Sun, Tarek El Moussa filed for a permit to demo three bedrooms and two bathrooms at a listed cost of $15,000.

The El Moussas are also moving some walls around for a cost of just under $2,000.

And they’re installing a solar panel system that will set them back just over $11,000.

Heather and Tarek are also playing it safe, installing an indoor sprinkler system for fire prevention that will cost nearly $4,000.

The final permit is a $1,000 retaining wall.

Tarek & Heather Are Going Big on High-End Finishes

Of course, not all renovations require permits.

Many of the El Moussa’s redesigns won’t be structural but will likely cost a good bit more than their permitted plans.

A video on Heather’s Instagram account shows the couple completely redesigning the massive walk-in closet in their new home.

Standing in the empty space, Tarek asks, “Can I go first” and proceeds to show Heather where his clothes should go, blocking out approximately half the space. “So you get, basically half?” Heather asks incredulously. “That’s not half,” Tarek exclaims, trying to explain further.

But the “Flip Off” designer cuts him off, saying, “No, so, my dresses are gonna go here..” then lays out her vision for the closet utilizing 80 to 90 percent of the space for herself, and leaving Tarek a short wall by the closet doorway.

The caption on the video reads “POV: your husband gets no opinions on the closet renovation.” And in the post, she writes, “I told him he could have some space… I just didn’t say where 😅”

Heather El Moussa Tells Followers She Plans a Total Home Overhaul

In another Instagram video Heather posted of the house while it was still empty, the designer walks followers through the then-empty home, explaining her plans. She writes, “If you know us, you knew we weren’t going to be leaving these walls white… welcome to the official start of our home series! 😁🏡

According to Realtor.com, Tarek and Heather El Moussa’s new home is located just a four-minute drive from the home of Tarek’s first wife Christina Haack.

Tarek and Christina share two children, 14-year-old Taylor and 10-year-old Brayden.

In the Instagram house tour, Heather shows followers rooms designated for both Taylor and Brayden in their new four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom home. In fact, she says Taylor will get her own bathroom, though Brayden and Tristan will have to share.

Despite Major Overhaul, El Moussas Say This Is Not Their ‘Forever’ Home

Despite all the work to make their new home in Newport Beach, California exactly what they want, Tarek and Heather El Moussa admit that even when all the reno is done- the new home is NOT their forever dream home.

The pair told Realtor.com that the search for their “forever home” continues. And the new home they’re renovating is only meant as an “in-between” home as they struggle to find exactly what they want.

On Realtor.com’s Celebrity Sanctuary, Tarek and Heather explain, “We got a new house because our other home was a beach house. It was a three-level beach house, rooftop, deck, and ocean view. It’s in a vacation area, which is hard to get to because there is a ton of traffic.”

The couple went on, “There wasn’t a yard or pool, so honestly, it was for the kids. We wanted some more space, and we wanted to be by the park because the kids are No. 1, and we want to make sure they’re happy.”

While the new home provides the yard and pool, the search for their forever home continues.

“We will probably be in this house for one or two years. This is going to be the in-between house before we buy the house, And then we’re done,” Tarek and Heather explained.
