Tarek El Moussa Shares Simple Keys to Successful Co-Parenting

Co-parenting is a difficult task, even under the best circumstances. For celebrities, those challenges are compounded by having to co-parent in the public eye. However, longtime HGTV fixture Tarek El Moussa has shown that even a tough divorce and busy filming schedule still leaves room for a positive, respectful co-parenting relationship.

In an April 2025 appearance on the Trading Secrets podcast, El Moussa took a break from sharing pearls of house-flipping wisdom to reveal his simple keys for successfully raising his kids alongside ex-wife Christina Haack: keeping his children as the top priority and checking his ego at the door.

El Moussa Strives to Always Put His Kids First

For El Moussa, parenting isn’t just part of his daily routine; it’s also an important component of his life’s purpose. As he explained in his Trading Secrets interview:

“Something that’s important to me when I leave this planet is knowing I did the right thing, and I was a good person, and I brought value to this world. Another thing that’s important to me is making sure I am the best parent possible, to make sure my kids have the best shot at the best life possible.”

Amicable co-parenting is part of how El Moussa embodies that goal, such as when he and Haack took their kids on a 2025 spring break trip. Haack shared a photo carousel on Instagram of the trip, including a snap of her, El Moussa, and their current partners. Both couples are all smiles in the photo.

Fans praised the former couple’s commitment to maintaining a positive blended family in the comments section, such as one who wrote: “This is what divorce should look like when there are children involved.” Others commented on how thankful their children will be in the future thanks to their thoughtful parenting choices.

Of course, harmonious co-parenting doesn’t happen by magic, and El Moussa was realistic about the difficulties while talking to Trading Secrets. According to Moussa, it’s all about setting your ego aside and remembering what matters most. “So the second I start letting my adult feelings, emotions, insecurities, and ego get in the way [of] what’s important for my kids, I lose,” he said.

El Moussa went on to explain that he is willing to do anything necessary for his children’s well-being. Although he and Haack seem to get along swimmingly now, the HGTV host confessed that he would still be willing to work with her under less positive circumstances if it benefited their shared kids. He ended his discussion about parenting with perhaps the best piece of advice of all: “Act like an adult. It’s not about you.”
