‘Rock the Block’ Names a Winner

HGTV competition series ‘Rock the Block’ is poised to crown a new winner.

The two-hour season finale airs at 9:00p.m. Memorial Day, May 26.

And the hotly-contested season is coming down to the wire. This year’s four teams have been divided into two teams of veterans who have “Rocked the Block” in previous seasons (team one, Alison Victoria and Michel Smith Boyd and team two, Jonathan and Jordan Knight) and two teams who are new kids on the block (team three- Chelsea and Cole DeBoer and team four- Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama.)

In the past six episodes, each team has scored at least one win, with the Knights and the Kalamas racking up two wins each.

But as we head into the season finale, no amount of wins will score the grand prize. The only numbers that count have a dollar sign in front of them.

Ultimately, the winning team will be the one whose house appraises for the most money at the end of the competition. And to get to the that finish line, each team will need as much money as possible to put those all-important final touches on their homes.

But while all four teams may have started with the same amount of cash ($250,000 each)- they are NOT going into the finale with the same resources.

Budget Boosts and Budget Busters

All four teams got a major budget bounce in episode six, when each received $50,000 to design their massive, one acre backyards. But only one team (the Kalamas) didn’t dip into their original budget to supplement that amount.

All the teams have boosted their budgets through challenge wins to varying degrees.

Challenge wins have added $3,000 for the winning team, and $1,500 for the rookie or veteran counterpart team. The exception- episode four when the teams judged each other and the Kalamas kept all $4,500 when they won.

That all shakes out to mean Alison and Michel and the DeBoers have each added $4,500 to their total budget. The Knight Brothers’ two wins in episodes three and six have added $7,500. And the Kalamas have added $9,000.

Budget Breakdown- What’s Left to Spend

But when it comes to spending, the numbers for each “Rock the Block” team are much further apart. For example, Alison and Michel budgeted $110,000 for the episode one challenge to renovate the kitchen, living and dining areas. While the Knights and the DeBoers spent just $65,000.

By our calculations, based on what’s been spent and what’s been won, here’s where each team stands going into the season finale budget-wise.

“Windy City Rehab’s” Alison Victoria and Season 4 champion, “Luxe for Less” designer Michel Smith Boyd have just $20,000 left to put the finishing touches on their home and get it ready for appraisal. That’s considerably less than any other team.

“Farmhouse Fixer’s” Jonathan Knight and his New Kids on the Block bandmate and brother Jordan Knight have about $30,000 to get their home ready for appraisal in episode seven.

Meanwhile “Renovation Aloha’s” Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama have $40,000 which is more than any other team.

“Down Home Fab’s” Chelsea and Cole DeBoer have just under $35,000 for remaining projects to get their homes to the finish line in episode seven.

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains spoilers for the “Rock the Block” season 6 season finale (May 26, 2025). Do not read ahead if you do not want to know who won.

Season Finale- What to Expect

For the two-hour season finale titled “And the Winner Is…,” HGTV says the teams will “empty their budgets and race to finish their homes before a winner is declared!”

“Property Brother” Jonathan Scott will team up with “Rock the Block’s” longtime host Ty Pennington to judge the homes. And for this week’s competition, it’s not a matter of taste. It’s a matter of appraisal.

The home that gets appraised for the highest amount takes the competition. And that team will get its name or names on the street sign for the block the homes sit on.

Veterans and Rookies Tied 3-3

The first order of business is to update the scoreboard. Last week’s backyard redesign win by Jonathan and Jordan Knight ties it up with 3 wins for the Veterans and 3 wins for the Rookies.

Ty tells the teams the final push will involve curb appeal and the upstairs guest bedroom.

The Kalamas plan cedar siding for their house with a massive pivot door. They add some island vibes with accent materials. They decide to expand the guest room by at least three feet. They’ll also add a slider out to the balcony. They strategize about how to add a wow factor for appraisers. With $40,000 left in their budget, they have more wiggle room than any other team for those extras.

The DeBoers decide to add sod to the front yard, plus a pad to park a camper or boat. They want to add a porch swing to the front porch.

For the guest room, they plan a bunk room that makes a great space for sleepovers.

Jonathan and Jordan plan stucco and stone for the exterior, with cedar accents. They plan an arched door of glass and metal. They want to add grass to the front yard.

For the guest room, they plan a coffee station, charging station and a lounge area on the balcony.

Alison and Michel plan to wow with a huge front door. They plan landscaping in natural tones, and a pea gravel walkway.

For the guest room, they plan a huge slider door and make the decision to turn the bedroom into a gym. They have the tightest budget with just $20,000.

The Teams Start Their Final Push

The teams get to work, focusing on the details inside and out. All of them go for bold wallpaper choices in their guest rooms.

The DeBoers admit participating in “Rock the Block” has been more stressful than they expected.

And a tease going into a break reveals that 300 drones will take to the skies above the block to spell out the winner in lights!

The Kalamas decide to spend their extra money adding solar panels to their roof. The system includes two batteries.

The Knights go for low maintenance, both with their stucco and stone exterior, and their small patch of sod in the front yard surrounded by white rocks.

The DeBoers focus on value, adding arches to their bunk beds.

The Kalamas bold wallpaper choice has Hawaiian flowers.

And Alison brings the heat, doing a treatment on her front door that burns the wood called shou sugi ban. But meanwhile, Michel is regretting the wallpaper choice for the gym and thinks it may have to come down.

Teams Struggle With Finishing Touches

Michel decides despite spending $1,500 on wallpaper for the home gym, it’s got to go.

The Knight brothers add automatic curtains that open and close with the touch of a button.

Alison takes her landscaper out to the prairie to dig up grasses for her planter boxes.

The Kalamas find themselves out of money after installing solar panels. So while they want to add cabinetry for a coffee bar, they have to settle for open shelving.

The DeBoers bring in a tiny home to show off their RV parking pad. They admit they’re worried about that the Kalamas solar panels will be hard to beat.

Crews work overtime to finish up the final renovations.

It’s Time for the Final Appraisal

The arrival of a Wayfair truck has the teams hustling on final appraisal day.

Alison announces after three times on “Rock the Block,” she’s not leaving without the win. The Kalamas admit participating in the show has been an “emotional rollercoaster ride.” Chelsea DeBoer says she’s feeling confident going into the final appraisal.

The Kalamas bring in a secret weapon, having Kamohai’s father fly in from Hawaii to sing a blessing over the house. Kamohai says, “it’s time to win!”

Jonathan Scott Arrives to Judge and Starts With the Kalamas

Then Property Brother Jonathan Scott arrives. Ty explains that these are 5,500 square foot homes with 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

Jonathan and Ty head for the Kalamas’ house first. The judging isn’t blind for the finale- and the Kalamas get to explain their “moody modern” vibe and their tropical touches influenced by their home in Hawaii.

Jonathan loves the warm and inviting exterior and praises the landscaping. Walking in, he loves being able to see all the way to the back of the house with windows bringing in light from both directions. He says that’s “one of the best things you can do designing a house.”

He calls the kitchen “smart design” with its indoor-outdoor window. “This feels like a show home,” he declares in the living room. And he loves the moss wall. He calls the master bedroom a “calm, serene space.” He thinks the foyer leading into the bedroom is a “strange decision” but loves the master bathroom and the kids room. He calls the newly finished guest room “classy and sophisticated.”

Jonathan Scott loves their lower level, especially the movie theater room. Jonathan says the Kalamas “thought of everything.” He calls the backyard, “a real estate agent’s dream” and thinks the solar panels added huge value. But he does lament the lack of a fenced-in backyard.

Jonathan and Ty Check Out the DeBoer’s House

Now it’s time to check out the DeBoer’s house.

Chelsea explains their “Cowboy Contemporary” design and the research that went into their choices.

Jonathan loves the simple design and thinks the parking pad for an RV is a great touch.

Going inside, he loves being met by the cowboy hats hanging on the wall.

Jonathan loves the massive island and bold colors in the kitchen, saying he likes it even better than the Kalamas’ kitchen. In the lower level, he loves the unusual touches like the shuffle board bar. And he loves the arcade complete with “Property Brothers” game.

He loves the hidden doors to the master closets. And he loves the deep red tile in the master shower.

Jonathan loves the built-in bunks in the newly created bunk room but calls the balcony “basic.” But he loves the backyard, calling it great for families. And he especially loves that the backyard is fenced in.

The Teams Finally Get to Check Out the Other Houses

The show takes a break from judging to show the teams getting to check out each other’s houses for the first time.

They start with the home of Jonathan and Jordan Knight. Chelsea DeBoer says seeing all the great design makes her a little nervous.

Then they head for Alison and Michel’s house. They love the hidden door but really want to see that winning kitchen. Jonathan says the kitchen leaves him speechless, announcing, “I’m moving into this house.” Both rookie teams admit that while Alison and Michel’s house is beautiful, it will only work for a specific buyer. They feel like the Knight Brothers more neutral tones make them the ones to beat.

Jonathan Scott and Ty Pennington Head for Alison & Michel’s House

Jonathan Scott calls the exterior a “10 out of 10.” He loves Alison’s shou sugi ban front door, pointing out that the burning actually makes it stronger.

Jonathan loves the hidden door and the office, but Ty tells him he needs to see the kitchen. Jonathan agrees, calling it incredible. But he admits the green stone “will not be for everybody.”

The indoor pickle ball court gets a laugh, but he loves that they have both the cold plunge and a sauna. He says the mini-pickle ball court isn’t “totally functional.”

Jonathan is shocked that Alison and Michel have turned the guest room into a home gym, but calls it a “win.” And he loves the huge sliders leading out to the balcony.

He is wowed by the enormous master closet, though he admits, “This still wouldn’t be enough for Zooey.” (wife Zooey Deschanel)

Jonathan does not like the gravel backyard, but he says the container casita adds real value.

Judges Head to Jonathan and Jordan Knight’s House

Jonathan Knight gets nostalgic, talking about how much he’s enjoyed working with brother Jordan in the competition. He admits Jordan made it into “New Kids on the Block” first, and that Jonathan was worried Jordan was going to go off with the band “and I was going to lose him.” Jonathan gets a little tearful talking about what it means to him to work with younger brother Jordan.

Jonathan Scott asks the brothers which is harder- “Rock the Block” or going on tour for a year. And the bros say it’s pretty much equal, and that both come with no sleep!

Jonathan Scott loves the arched door. He calls the overall tone safer, saying it’s “beautiful but a bit boring.”

Jonathan Scott loves the kitchen and the relaxation room. And he praises the hotel vibe of the newly created guest room.

He calls the brothers’ lower level “a win” though he’s not sure how much value a recording booth adds.

Jonathan praises the screened in back porch and the different zones in the backyard. He’s not sure the goat barn adds that much value but appreciates the fun of it. And he loves the greenhouse with its elaborate dining space.

Now, it’s time to run the numbers and pick a winner.

But First the Teams Check Out the Rookies’ Houses

The DeBoers and the Kalamas get a chance to show off their houses to the other teams.

The teams all have high praise for the DeBoer’ family-friendly designs.

Then they head to the Kalamas, where they marvel at the Hawaiian vibe throughout. At the end of the tour, Michel wonders if a rookie team might take it.

And the Winner of ‘Rock the Block’ Season 6 Is…

Three independent, unbiased appraisers come in to go through each home and run the numbers. Once they make their assessments, they meet with Jonathan Scott to go over the numbers.

It’s dark and clearly cold on the block when it’s time to reveal the winner. Jonathan Scott tells the team that the winning house appraised for $1.4 million. The homes each started with a value of $750,000, with approximately $300,000 in renovations for each home.

Jonathan Scott walks each team through their best decisions and most value-added as we wait to hear who won.

Then 300 drones take to the skies behind Ty to help him announce the winner. The drones spell out UTAH and Rookies vs. Veterans. Ty tells the teams the difference between the winning home and the second place was just $35,000. The drones begin a countdown before they light up the name of the winner.

And it’s Alison and Michel! The third time is the charm for Alison, and it makes Michel the first ever to win “Rock the Block” twice. Both get emotional about the win. Together they hand the “Alison & Michel Ave” sign.
