The competition is getting fierce on HGTV’s hit competition show “Rock the Block!”
Episode three of season six debuts Monday, April 28 at 9:00p.m. ET.
And with the Veterans and the Rookies tied with one win each, you can bet all four teams will be going all out to take the lead.
If you’ve missed any of the action so far, we’ve got you covered.
Your first “need to know” is that season six has introduced some twists and turns to the four-team competition that pits designers against each other in an effort to renovate four identical homes to raise their value the most.
This season, the “block” is a neighborhood outside Salt Lake City, Utah, where four teams are renovating identical properties that boast mountain views, soaring interior spaces and the largest backyards in series history.
And they’ve each been given a quarter of a million dollars to do it.
Season Six’s Twists and Turns Are a Hit With Fans
HGTV has thrown a few wrenches at designers, adding some new twists and turns to the competition for its sixth go round.
And so far, fans are loving it.
According to a press release from HGTV parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, the season six debut was the highest rated season premiere on HGTV since 2023!
There are essentially three big changes.
One: for the first time ever, season six is pitting two teams who have been around the block a time or two (the veterans) against teams who are the new kids on the block (rookies).
Two: A scoreboard pits the two veteran teams against the two rookie teams. When one set of vets wins, not only do they get a $3,000 bonus to use in the next challenge, but also their counterparts score a $1,500 bonus. And the same goes when a rookie team wins.
Three: This season, guest judges don’t know whose house they’re looking at. In seasons past, the teams have toured the house with the judges. But this time, they go in with no information on whose house is whose.
Veterans Prevail in Episode One
Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab) is teamed up with Season 4 champion and high-end designer Michel Smith Boyd (Luxe For Less). The pair won the first challenge, renovating the kitchen, dining room and living room. They wowed guest judge Bobby Berk (Queer Eye) with their bold green kitchen and 10-burner stove. Alison Victoria has now won the kitchen competition all three times she’s competed on “Rock the Block.” But she’s never won the whole thing.
Fellow vets Jonathan Knight (Farmhouse Fixer) and his New Kids on the Block bandmate and brother Jordan Knight make up the second team of veterans. Even though Jordan is technically new to the block, he did help his brother in his Camp Revamp property flip and earns vet status by default. So far, this team hasn’t scored a win, and in fact have had the biggest “miss” so far with their swan faucet with duck handles in the powder bath.
The waterfowl faucet baffled guest judges Jasmine Roth and Mina Starsiak-Hawk.
Rookies Get the Win in Episode Two
Married home reno pros Chelsea and Cole DeBoer (Down Home Fab) got the “w” in episode two. That’s largely thanks to their smart move to expand the powder bath into an en suite by adding a shower. The DeBoers hope their victory will put to rest all the “rookie” talk.
House-flipping experts Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama (Renovation Aloha) have not managed a win yet. But they but do get an extra $1,500 to spend on the episode three challenge thanks to the DeBoers.
Episode Three: What to Expect
Episode three is titled “That’s a Veteran Move.” The teams will tackle their main suites.
“Divided by Design” stars Eilyn and Ray Jimenez will be the guest judges.
Expect Jonathan and Jordan Knight to make big moves after feeling like they’ve been playing it too safe.
Alison Victoria and Michel Smith Boyd will likely have to make some budget moves. The pair have spent more of their $250,000 budget than any other team.
And Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama will almost certainly come into the third competition feeling like they have something to prove.
Episode three airs Monday, April 28 at 9:00pm on HGTV, streaming the next day on Max and Discovery+.
And EntertainmentNOW will have live coverage of the episode as it unfolds!
