It’s not quite time for haunted houses, but nevertheless comedian and host Retta is ringing in the scary season sooner than you think.
Season two of “Scariest House in America” comes screaming back to HGTV on September 19.
Season one’s creepy creations drew more than 8-million viewers to watch Retta share her unfiltered views of the good, the bad and the scary.
And season two is promising even more scares, with Retta criss-crossing the country to tour horrific horror houses. While the houses don’t have to be haunted- it doesn’t hurt!
Although Retta might actually disagree.
In a press release from Warner Brothers Discovery, the comedian says, “(sigh) What can I say? We’re back hunting down scary houses. Another season of uneasy sleep for yours truly. I hope you all enjoy!”
From Paranormal to Petrifying: What to Expect In Season Two
A new sneak peek from HGTV starts with an ominous voice asking, “Hello, Retta, do you still like scary houses?”
Retta replies with a quick “NOPE” and tosses her phone, but she’s not walking away- or running- from the fright fest just yet.
A press release about season two promises “This season, the frightening finds will include a former funeral home with a basement morgue, a house situated on a graveyard and a property that resembles a witch’s hat—all where spooky shadows lurk, lights flicker and strange noises abound.”
Though in the sneak peek, Retta does warn, “If anyone’s head spins around, this is the last episode that I’m doing.”
Episode One Features a Former Funeral Home
The September 19 premiere will feature eerie homes in the eastern U.S., including one that used to be a funeral home.
There, homeowners introduce Retta to a “corpse door.” They explain that’s a hidden door cut into the floor where “they would lift the bodies up through the floor” after preparing them for burial in the basement.
“There’s always a corpse door,” Retta says staring down the camera lens.
A reluctant Retta agrees to go down to that basement, with one homeowner saying, “You’ll be coming back out, Retta. Hopefully.”
The season premiere also features a centuries-old, ghost-filled Maryland estate, a Georgia jail from the 1800s with its own unexplained soundtrack, and an historic haunted house in Connecticut with an attic straight out of central casting.
How to Watch Season 2 of ‘Scariest Houses in America’
Season two of “Scariest Houses in America” will feature six new episodes spotlighting what a press release calls “spine-tingling elements to embrace the spirit of Halloween.”
After Retta takes a terrifying tour of the property, she’ll offer hilariously unfiltered views, ranking each home’s scary appearance, bad function and fright factor.
The home deemed the “scariest” of them all will get a $150,000 “renovation revival” by designer Alison Victoria.
You can catch the season premiere of “Scariest Houses in America” premiering September 19 at 9:00p.m. ET.
