Husband of HGTV’s Mina Starsiak Hawk Lovingly Defends Her Over Beach Photo

Longtime HGTV star Mina Starsiak Hawk has no problem sticking up for herself, having begrudgingly grown accustomed to being a lightning rod for online criticism while starring on “Good Bones” for eight seasons.

But on February 28, 2025, Starsiak Hawk’s husband — fitness trainer Steve Hawk — jumped into the fray to defend his wife after someone criticized her for posting a photo of them in their swimsuits, and called it the “worst comment” he’d ever seen.

Starsiak Hawk posted a photo on social media of herself in a bikini, sunglasses and a ball cap, standing by the ocean with her husband during their getaway to Cancun, Mexico. Many fans left supportive comments, including one who wrote, “Sweetest couple ever ❤️ enjoy a refresh”

But the couple took issue with one commenter, who wrote, “You had a boob job and tummy tuck why are you posting body pics that may make people that don’t have that luxury feel bad about themselves because they don’t look like you 🤷‍♀️ you know better girlfriend!”

In December 2020, Starsiak Hawk underwent a “mommy makeover” after having two kids. The surgery included a tummy tuck, liposuction and getting breast implants, she told Us Weekly, explaining that she wanted to empower women to do “whatever makes you feel strong and powerful and beautiful.”

On March 1, Starsiak Hawk replied to the person who’d criticized her bikini pic, writing that she posted the photo “because it’s my job to feel good about MYself, not make sure a stranger I’ve never met feels good about themselves.”

“Sounds like part of your struggle might be you’re too worried about comparing yourself to other people,” Starsiak Hawk continued. “And just an aside, my boob job and tummy tuck didn’t give me biceps and quads, busting my ass in the gym did. But it’s probably easier for you to you to reduce my positive health and body image down to a surgery bc it makes it easier for you to make the excuse as to why you can’t also achieve it. But I don’t know you, so who knows. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thus was a lively chat Janet.”

Her husband, who runs HawkFit in Indianapolis, then jumped in to add his own two cents, writing, “this is the worst comment I’ve ever seen in my life. So what do you suggest my wife does? Hide in a closet? Eating right and exercise has maintained this appearance. You still have to put the work in. I can’t believe I took the time to comment on this terrible comment.”

Fans Rush to Add Their Support for Mina Starsiak Hawk

On March 1, Starsiak Hawk shared a screenshot in her Instagram Stories of her exchange with the person who criticized the beach photo. She wrote over the image, “Apparently I’m never allowed to show my body to anyone but my husband ever again. WHY are women so wild?!??”

She then posted another photo of herself in her Stories, lounging in a different bikini, and featured a response she received to her previous Story that said, “Typical Karen running the pie hole.” Underneath, Starsiak Hawk wrote, “Upsetting Karen’s since 2020”

Multiple fans rushed to support Starsiak Hawk in the comment section of her initial post, including one who wrote, “very respectful response to a post that doesn’t deserve that level of courtesy (I wish I had that level of restraint). Your journey is your journey- maybe instead of trying to tear you down critics should find inspiration and motivation in what you and @srhawk2003 are achieving and try doing it for themselves.”

Another chimed in, “no one can make you feel a way you don’t want to feel. Mina’s pictures of her hot body have motivated me to lose weight and work out. Maybe you can feel motivated too! It’s a better choice.”
