Why HGTV’s Keith Bynum Says He’s Now ‘Really Looking Forward’ to ‘Bargain Block’ Ending

After recovering from the shock of his home renovation show “Bargain Block” not getting renewed for a fifth season by HGTV, Keith Bynum says he now looks forward to the final episode airing — likely in early September.

The Detroit-based artist and restoration expert, who stars on the series with his longtime partner Evan Thomas and local real estate maven Shea Hicks-Whitfield, shared that surprising tidbit while answering fans’ questions in his Instagram Stories on July 10, 2025.

When one fan asked him to name something he’s looking forward to in 2025, Bynum replied, “This is kind of strange, but one thing I’m really looking forward to is the last episode of ‘Bargain Block’ airing. It’ll be a lot of emotions that day, but it’ll also be officially the turn of a new page. And I think Evan and me and Shea are ready for it. But the next page is going to be quite fun.”

On June 17, Keith Bynum shared in his Instagram Stories that “Bargain Block” had been discontinued after four seasons, noting that although HGTV had renewed it for a fifth season in December, executives changed their mind in February.

Bynum noted that there were still four episodes left of season four remaining, and that HGTV planned to start airing them on Thomas’ birthday, which is August 20, but that the change in direction “threw us into a bit of a crazy financial tailspin and the last three, four months, we’ve been trying to just figure it out. So we’re doing client work and got some other stuff going on, but it’s been — oh, man, it’s been wild.”

The “Bargain Block” team has had more time than their fans to come to grips with the news, and many peppered Bynum with questions about their future in his Instagram Stories on July 10.

When someone wrote, “Tell us we will see you on TV somewhere,” Bynum rolled his eyes playfully and replied, “Y’all will, don’t worry, don’t worry!”

Since Bynum was posting from a client project in Georgia and they’ve done additional renovations in New Orleans, someone wrote, “I keep worrying yall are leaving Detroit. Are yall staying?”

Bynum replied in his Stories, “I get this question a lot, too. We ain’t leaving Detroit. I’ve said this many times, but we’re not going anywhere. We’re expanding our business there, love it there, Michigan. And New Orleans. But, not leaving Detroit.”

‘Bargain Block’ is Among 5 Shows Known to Have Been Canceled by HGTV Since Mid-June 2025

Since Bynum posted the news in mid-June about “Bargain Block” not returning for a fifth season, stars from four additional shows have also come forward to share that their shows have not been renewed either.

On June 23, longtime HGTV contractor Izzy Battres informed fans in the comment section of one of his posts that his new series, “Izzy Does It,” was not renewed for a second season.

The next day, on June 24, married couple Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson announced that they’d returned from vacation to learn that their show, “Married to Real Estate,” had not been renewed for a fourth season.

Then, late on June 25, New Kids on the Block member Jonathan Knight disclosed via social media that the network also decided not to renew his show, “Farmhouse Fixer” for a fourth season.

The fifth show not renewed by HGTV is “Battle on the Beach,” which Alison Victoria revealed on the July 1 episode of her “Pap Smear Podcast” while chatting with her “Ugliest House in America” co-star Retta. Victoria co-starred with Ty Pennington and Taniya Nayak on “Battle on the Beach” for four seasons, but said HGTV decided not to bring it back in 2025 for a fifth season.
