Jonathan Scott shared an update about rebuilding Zooey Deschanel’s family home that was lost in the Los Angeles wildfires. The HGTV star is already finalizing the plans to bring the house back to life.
Jonathan Scott Will Start Rebuilding Zooey Deschanel’s Family Home Soon
During a February 23 interview with “Entertainment Tonight” on the SAG Awards red carpet, Scott and Deschanel gave the latest update about her family’s home. In January, the HGTV star promised to restore her childhood home after it was lost in the LA wildfires.
“I think it’s important for people to know not to listen to a lot of the rhetoric online. The rebuild is happening,” Scott said. “In fact, it’s moving faster than anticipated. The county and the city are doing so much work to make sure people can get home.”
Deschanel added, “I have to say, the city has actually been incredible. Their response has been amazing.”
The interviewer asked Scott for an update on the restoration timeline, noting, “You have said you’re going to do everything remotely possible to rebuild her childhood home.”
Scott shared, “Within two weeks, I’ll have the plans reworked and ready to go.”
Deschanel pointed out that, in addition to being “the best partner ever,” Scott is “also the best neighbor.” She explained, “He was there for every neighbor that needed help. He’s the best person.”
The actress added, while hugging Scott, “It was so amazing, like going through such a crazy thing — so sad — but to have Jonathan.”
The “Property Brothers” star explained, “It’s a very confusing time. You know, where her parents’ house was in the Palisades, 20% of the folks who lived in the Palisades are seniors, did not have insurance and it’s a real struggle.”
He added, “So we want to make sure that people are taken care of and that’s the first thing we’re going to do. We’re going to make sure the information gets to them.”
Scott and Deschanel Joked About a Vegas Wedding
Scott and Deschanel also joked about the possibility of an impromptu wedding.
Since they were dressed as if they could be getting married, they leaned into the bit. “That’s what we’re doing — we’re driving to Vegas after the SAG Awards and we’re just going to get hitched,” Deschanel joked.
She added, “That’s how we do. Who needs family at your wedding when you could have a fake Elvis?”
When the interviewers commented on the couple holding hands during the interview, Scott shared, “I mean, I love her. Have you seen her? I mean, I love her.”
