“Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers” star Jonathan Scott spoke about his upcoming wedding with his fiancee, actress Zooey Deschanel.
In a January 2025 interview with People magazine, Scott shared that he and Deschanel, who got engaged in August 2023, have not done much wedding planning, due to their busy schedules.
“I can guarantee you we have done absolutely 0% more work. We’ve just had a lot of things going on,” said Scott to the publication.
Scott also jokingly said he might focus on doing more wedding planning in 2025.
“Maybe that’ll be my New Year’s resolution — we’ve got to get this wedding figured out,” quipped Scott.
Jonathan Scott Said He & Zooey Deschanel Want a Small Wedding
While speaking to People magazine in May 2024, Scott said that he and Deschanel, who was previously married to Ben Gibbard and Jacob Pechenik, would like a small wedding.
“We know that the most important thing for us is to be surrounded by our loved ones. And we’re not planning to do a crazy, extravagant wedding. It’s going to be pretty intimate,” said Scott, who divorced his first wife, Kelsy Ully, in 2013, during the May 2024 interview with People magazine.
Scott made similar comments about his upcoming nuptials during a June 2024 interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” alongside his brother and collaborator, Drew Scott. Scott said that he and Deschanel “just want to have a kick [expletive] party with everyone [they] love.”
“We’re not going big. We’re going to keep it nice and intimate. We haven’t actually made any of the plans yet. ‘Cause we’re just having so much fun,” said Scott during the June 2024 interview.

During a joint October 2023 interview with People magazine, Scott and Deschanel shared details about their engagement. Scott said that he had asked Deschanel’s “parents permission two and a half months before” proposing to her during a Scotland vacation. He said he took Deschanel and her children, Elsie Otter, and Charlie Wolf, whom she shares with Pechenik, to Edinburgh Castle, where he asked her the big question.

In the October 2023 People magazine interview, Deschanel noted that she and Scott were introduced during the production of a 2019 episode of “Carpool Karaoke.” She said that they both enjoyed each other’s silliness and sense of humor.
“Our personalities are so compatible,” said Deschanel to People.
Deschanel also said she was immediately impressed with Scott’s kindness during a 2022 interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”
“I couldn’t believe he was so nice,” said Deschanel.
She also shared that Scott has continued to be exceedingly kind to her throughout their relationship.
“We’ve been together for over three years and he’s still that nice. He like goes over and fixes stuff at my parents’ house. He’s so nice,” said Deschanel.
