Jonathan & Drew Scott Share ‘Bittersweet’ Aspect of Their New HGTV Show

Jonathan and Drew Scott‘s new HGTV series has them feeling nostalgic. Find out why “Chasing the West” has been a “bittersweet” experience for the duo.

Jonathan & Drew Scott on Nostalgia of HGTV Series ‘Chasing the West’

In a July 2025 interview with People, Jonathan and Drew shared what it was like to tackle a different show for HGTV. “Chasing the West,” which premieres on July 30, 2025, has the brothers helping families make a move from their busy city lives to a slower pace in the country.

The experience reminded the brothers of growing up on a ranch in the Canadian Rockies.

“It was sort of bittersweet because we could share what we loved about growing up on a ranch with all of these families,” Jonathan explained. “On the flip side, I miss it. It was so fun to be in the mountains.”

He added, “It was like a blast to the past for us. It was nostalgic. “We were riding horses every other day and I haven’t ridden in years, so I was sore.”

Drew shared one “magical” part of growing up on a ranch. “My favorite would probably be in the evenings, I always loved having a campfire,” he recalled. “My dad would play the guitar, and we would just sit and sing and watch the sun go down. That was magical.”

Drew also explained that there were learning moments for some of the families because they didn’t fully understand the scope of ranch life.

“We learned a lot over the years from being on a ranch and the hard work that it takes,” he said. “But all these homeowners that we’re dealing with, they were oblivious. They thought it would just be a dream to leave the hectic, busy pace of the city and have a relaxing life on a ranch.”

The HGTV star added, “No, it’s hard work. So we really were that wake-up call.”

Property Brothers Explain Pitfalls of Owning More Land

Jonathan touched on how some buyers wanted to purchase more land, but the brothers schooled them on what that extra land ownership really means.

“The more land you get, the more expensive it is to maintain. And I remember whether it was mending fences or catching cattle that escaped — that was so much work,” he explained. “So you have to size it appropriately for your needs.”

Jonathan noted that “your dollar can stretch further when you’re out there,” but homeowners may “waste a lot of money” if they don’t factor in the extra costs of having more land.
