Joanna Gaines and her husband Chip Gaines are returning to their “Fixer Upper” roots, but they’re tackling something they’ve “never done” before. Find out what the former HGTV stars are working on and when fans can see the renovation.
Chip & Joanna Gaines Tackle Major ‘Fixer Upper’ Challenge
During an August 19 appearance on the “Today” show, Joanna gave a little tease about what’s next for her and Chip.
“We are wrapping up a project out of state — our first out-of-state ‘Fixer Upper,'” she shared.
Joanna continued, “Never done that before. So we’re learning new challenges, we’re learning a lot. But we’re wrapping that up in the next month and it’ll air later this year.”
She added, “So we’re really excited about that.”
When asked how she’s feeling about their Magnolia empire journey and all its success, she shared, “We still can’t believe it.”
Joanna added, “But I feel like it’s like food and home are always going to be the core of what we love doing. It’s a way to bring people together, make people feel at home … comfort. All the things. So we’re really excited.”
Chip and Joanna first burst on the scene with the HGTV series “Fixer Upper,” which ran for five seasons, from 2013 to 2018. The series got a refresh with “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home” when they launched the Magnolia Network in 2021, followed by multiple spinoffs that featured a castle, hotel, and lakehouse.
Joanna didn’t provide further details about their latest “Fixer Upper” renovation, beyond it being out of state.
Joanna Gaines Has a New Cooking Show
During the interview, Joanna also shared details about her new cooking show, “Magnolia Table: At the Farm,” coming to Magnolia Network, Food Network, and HBO Max streaming on September 7.
“So I have shot about 8 or 9 seasons of ‘Magnolia Table’ at the Gristmill,” she said. “And this last season I was just thinking, ‘You know, I want to do something a little different.'”
Joanna continued, “I’ve loved being in this space that we just renovated, that was [son] Crew’s bedroom, and now it’s an extension of the kitchen. But I feel like being in that space, I feel so creative and I wanted to do something from home.”
She had a couple of rules in mind for the stripped-down show, noting, “I was like, less than three people in the house and it has to be when the kids are at school so they don’t know what’s going on. I didn’t want it to feel like a production.”
That allowed the show to be less “produced,” according to the “Magnolia Table” star. “It was just me, with the camera, and I felt like it was cathartic in some ways,” she shared. “I was talking about things I was about to go through with Ella about to graduate.”
Joanna added, “It was showing simpler recipes instead of these five-course meals that will still bring these meaningful moments around the table.”
