Valentine’s Day is a big deal for the Gaines family. Chip and Joanna Gaines and their kids have a tradition for the holiday — and the former HGTV star is sharing what’s on the menu.
Joanna Gaines Reveals Family Valentine’s Day Tradition
For Joanna and her family, Valentine’s Day is about sharing the love — and some amazing food, of course. Their theme for the holiday is simple enough, as the dinner menu is each person’s favorite food.
In a January 2025 post on the Magnolia website, Joanna gave a peek at how her family has always celebrated Valentine’s Day.
“The first year we lived at the farm, Chip and I had the idea of making Valentine’s dinner at home. Instead of finding a fancy table for two somewhere, we thought the kids might enjoy dressing up our own table, making a spread of our favorite dishes, and toasting to a night spent together,” she wrote.
Joanna continued, “Every year since, we’ve returned to this sweet tradition, and as the kids have grown up, it’s now a full-on family affair. Everyone takes a job: setting the table, cooking (or sometimes just tasting … ), playing dj, or lighting the candles.”
She added, “We like to change up the table setting and add to the menu every year, so I thought I’d pull together what the kids and I came up with for this February 14. Maybe it will inspire your own evening in!”
Joanna Gaines Calls Their Valentine’s Day Menu ‘Simple’
While it sounds like a labor of love to put together this family Valentine’s Day gathering, the menu, according to Joanna, is “simple.”
She wrote, “The theme here is simple. I make everyone’s favorites, and fill in any flavor gaps with tastes I know we’ll all love.”
Joanna shared their 2025 Valentine’s Day menu, starting with white cheddar bisque, a salad, and side dishes (mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes). The main dish is beef tenderloin, though Joanna notes that they make king crab legs every year, saying, “it’s always the kids’ favorite.”
For dessert, they have chocolate covered strawberries and crème brûlée with fresh berries on the menu.
Joanna’s table is set with sweet pink touches for the holiday. “When it comes to the tablescape, I like to layer in a few feminine details along with a neutral base to keep the look balanced,” she explained.
The “Magnolia Table” star continued, “The sweet spot for me is a table that feels celebratory and nostalgic, but one that also feels intentionally put together for the people there.”
Joanna added, “This year, I played around with woven and linen textures as well as vintage flatware and glassware. It feels classic to have a centerpiece of roses, so we snipped a few varieties from the garden!”
In a February 13 Instagram post, Joanna gave a glimpse at how she decorated for Valentine’s Day. She captioned the video post, “‘Twas the night before Valentine’s.”
The centerpiece of the table was a vase of roses (she received so many roses from Chip for Valentine’s Day!) and the decor included heart-shaped garland and other pink decorations.
She also set out boxes of chocolates for the kids and some other sweet details, including a little stuffed puppy holding a valentine letter.
