Joanna Gaines Turns Son’s Bedroom Into Stunning Pantry

Joanna Gaines did a mini reni in her home when her son Crew was ready to move to a big kid bedroom. The result? A beautiful butler’s pantry where the former HGTV star’s “sourdough dreams can come true.”

Joanna Gaines Turns a Bedroom Into a Beautiful Pantry

In a June 11 Magnolia Network Instagram post, Gaines gave a glimpse at the work that went into turning her son’s former bedroom into a butler’s pantry.

“From dream to reality! With Crew moving to the big kids’ room, @JoannaGaines expands her kitchen into Crew’s old bedroom to create an inspiring butler’s pantry,” the caption explained.

In the clip, her husband Chip asks, “OK, babe, where are we at and what in the world are you doing to my house?”

She explains, “OK, so flooring is almost finished, the tile is set, the rest of the cabinets come in today.”

Gaines continues, “And so I’ll get a real sense for what the space is going to feel like. But it’s been fun to watch this come to life.”

Gaines Explains How She Transformed the Room for Their ‘Season of Life’

On June 12, Gaines took to Instagram to share photos of the finished project.

“When my youngest, Crew, announced that he was ready to move into the big boy room, it meant reimagining how to utilize his bedroom (which just so happens to be a tucked-away space just off the kitchen),” she explained.

Gaines noted, “Additional space for cooking & entertaining became the leading idea, and from there we transformed this extra room into an inspiring butler’s pantry where all my sourdough dreams can come true 🥖.”

Gaines provided full details of the renovation in a blog post, writing, “I’ve always been a big believer in letting your home evolve along with you as seasons and the needs of your family change. This week’s mini renovation takes place at the farm, in a room that has held many different roles since we moved in about twelve years ago.”

She explained how the space served as an office and family den and then as Crew’s nursery and toddler room. “That’s how it stayed until our oldest moved away for college and Crew asked if he could finally move into the big kids’ room.”

Gaines put some thought into how the space would best serve them in “the season of life we’re in and all the ways our family is growing up.” She noted, “I’d dreamed for a while about having a secondary space for all the baking and cooking we do for family gatherings.”

For her butler’s pantry, the “Mini Reni” star said she focused on creating a cozy space with items that inspire her creativity.

“I knew I wanted it to look like a natural extension of the farmhouse, while also feeling cozy and moody and filled with the things that inspire creativity in me, from the honey-filled jars that line shelves to old family recipes I had framed and put on display,” she explained.

Gaines added, “This room, in all of its iterations, has held the life of our family in so many meaningful ways and I can’t wait to see how it shapes this next season.”
