Jenny Marrs took a moment to reflect on a particularly heartbreaking moment she faced when they were in the process of adopting their daughter, Sylvie. The HGTV star found strength in her faith, but admits she felt “helpless” at the time.
Jenny Marrs Recalled Her ‘Helpless’ Feeling as a Mom
On April 18, Marrs took to Instagram to share a story about a time she felt helpless about her child’s health.
“On this Good Friday, the darkest day in the history of mankind, I am reminded of another Good Friday, twelve years ago, when we were still stuck in our adoption wait and our daughter was hospitalized and very sick half a world away,” the HGTV star recalled.
Marrs continued, “I was helpless to comfort her. I was helpless to care for her. I was helpless to calm her fears. I was broken and longing to be there holding her.”
She shared how she identified with another mother at that moment. “My heart was aching and I was given a glimpse into a unique component of the crucifixion story. I was able to identify like never before with the heart of Mary,” Marrs explained. “As she watched on as her perfect and spotless son was tortured and crucified, I can only imagine that she was helpless, aching, and shattered.”
The “Fixer to Fabulous” star noted, “I can assume that her heart looked on with fierce love as her baby was hurting and her arms longed to reach out and wrap Him in her embrace. To provide comfort. To protect Him from the pain.”
Marrs pointed out the “faith and immense hope” in this story. She also shared some wise words from author Jennifer Rothschild: “Every fear and sorrow of Friday became tears of joy on Sunday, so if your life feels like a dark Friday, hang on, Sunday is on the way.”
The HGTV star added, “Sunday is on the way, friends. Hold on.”
