Jenny Marrs isn’t standing for any hate about her special anniversary celebration and vow renewal with her husband. When a social media commenter voiced their criticism about Dave, the HGTV star had the perfect response.
Jenny Marrs Responds to a Rude Comment About Dave
In her April 21 Instagram Stories, Marrs shared a comment from one follower who was critical of Dave’s attire at the couple’s recent vow renewal ceremony.
“Men wearing a hat inside is disrespectful though,” they wrote. “I see it in restaurants all the time, in church, at my dinner table. Come on, have some class.”
The commenter continued, “We all know he’s bald, but he has a great shaped head and looks handsome without one. He should be setting an example for his boys.”
Marrs noted on her Instagram Stories, “I sometimes respond to the nonsense because I can’t help myself. I like to think it’s righteous anger.”
Though she didn’t owe this critic any explanation, Marrs took a moment to craft the perfect response.
“This was our day and we were being ourselves,” she began. “Dave has nothing to prove to me or anyone else. And he didn’t know about the party it was a surprise!!”
She continued, “And I love him in a hat or without a hat and he asked me if he should take it off and I said no because he loves wearing a hat.”
Marrs noted, “We don’t believe in silly rules about what we wear — God tells us it’s what’s on the inside that counts and never to worry about what you’re wearing on the outside.”
“So, respectfully, I disagree,” she wrote.
The HGTV star added, “I would never make my kids wear something that made them uncomfortable either. So think that he’s setting a perfect example for our boys. He loves and leads our family with integrity, humility, strong faith, generosity, compassion, kindness and gentleness.”
She ended her response perfectly, noting, “That’s the kind of example he’s setting for his boys.”
Marrs Defends Decision to ‘Block and Delete’
The HGTV star shared that she had to block the person after they fired back with another comment about “respect.”
Marrs noted, “And then they come back and try to defend their hate-fueled opinions by using the name of God. And now, I’m flipping-tables-in-the-Temple mad.”
She continued, “I know not everyone knows my God and I sure don’t want some ridiculous comment on my page to be a stumbling block to someone as they seek a love-fueled God who would NEVER condemn you for what you wear. Ever.”
Marrs further explained, “God is a God of LOVE and mercy and grace. He was celebrating alongside us the other night in our barn. He was rejoicing as we modeled for our kids what two decades of marriage and commitment look like. He was standing alongside a great cloud of witnesses rejoicing as we set the foundation for our kids and their kids and their kids.”
She shared, “So, yes I block and delete often. This is my page and I will not have you disrespect my husband here. And I will not have you use the name of my God for your bigotry here.”
The “Fixer to Fabulous” star also shared an exchange from her DMs with another fan who defended the criticism of Dave.
Marrs noted, “just want to clarify why I was upset and called this comment nonsense.”
She told the fan, “We were at a party, in a barn. In this instance, I very much disagree. I shared an intimate moment from our family’s very special memory and this is all she took from it.”
Marrs continued, “My husband works hard in the sun all day long and he wears a hat. He always has. He doesn’t do it disrespectfully … he is a farmer and construction worker in the midwest. Also, this is NOT an instruction from God.”
She added, “So, I am frustrated that she took a special moment and used it as an opportunity to criticize and thought she could use God as a defense for being rude. That’s nonsense.”
