House Hunters Reveal What It’s Really Like to Be on the Show

While “Rock the Block” may be flashier, and “The Flip Off” may have more drama, HGTV’s long-running “House Hunters” still remains one of the network’s most-watched shows according to DirectTV.

But what’s it really like to be on the show? And how hard is it to get on?

One couple who went through the process is giving a behind-the-scenes peek at what it’s like to be featured on “House Hunters.”

Lindsey and Jared Jackson’s episode of “House Hunters” is set to air on HGTV Sunday, August 24 at 9:00pm according to Pine County News.

The Minneapolis newlyweds say they decided to apply to be on “House Hunters” after friend of theirs joked about it when they talked about looking for a house.

Newlyweds Explain the Process of Getting on ‘House Hunters’

Lindsey Jackson says while her friend was joking, that got her thinking that being on “House Hunters” might just be fun.

So she Googled it.

Lindsey found an application on-line and filled it out. To both her and husband Jared’s surprise, HGTV reached out.

“Both of our families love ‘House Hunters,’ and it started out as such a casual thing … the fact that it turned into reality still shocks us!” Lindsey told Pine County News.

Lindsey says the couple, who were expecting their first child, loved the idea of documenting such an exciting time in their lives.

“We were so excited that this chapter of our lives was going to be documented in such an official way. Especially with our first child on the way. We have been waiting years to buy our first home and start a family. So the fact that we now have this to look back on and show our daughter feels really special,” she said.

Filming ‘House Hunters’ Was Easier Than Expected

Lindsey and Jared, who both work as prosthetist orthotists building orthotic limbs, say the filming process was easier than expected.

“The on-site producer and crew were really great about coaching us on the whole process,” revealed Lindsey. “They made it feel natural and easy. You could tell they were professionals who are used to working with amateurs. By the end of the filming, having big cameras in our faces all the time felt natural!”

Jared agreed, saying, “I was surprised by how comfortable I felt by the end of filming. It’s not every day you get to do something like this, but I really felt like a pro by the end.”

In fact, the couple insist they “had a blast” filming the show.

Funnily enough, Lindsey’s parents, who appear at the end of the show, found it a little more challenging.

“I found it tough to not look at the cameras and to also act naturally,” said Lindsey’s dad Don.

Lindsey’s mom Sue agreed. She said, “I tried hard to relax and have fun with it, but I don’t operate well out of my comfort zone. I am sure I will be critiquing myself pretty hard. This will be a cool memento for Lindsey and Jared to look back at their lives starting out.”

Lindsey & Jared Say They Haven’t Seen the Episode

Lindsey and Jared say they’ll see their episode of “House Hunters” for the first time August 24 at 9:00pm along with the of the nation.

“There are a lot of things that happen when filming, so the mystery of not seeing the final cut is a little nerve wracking,” admits Lindsey.

But that in no way dampens her enthusiasm for doing “House Hunters.”

“I was just really impressed with how smooth the entire process was and how much each person involved truly seemed to care about not only our first home purchase, but also us as individuals. Everyone was so easy to be around and it felt like a little family by the end of it,” Lindsey enthused.

Jared agreed, saying, “I am excited to see how our story plays out in the episode.”

What You Won’t See On the Jacksons’ Episode of ‘House Hunters’

The Jacksons bought their home at the end of 2024.

But long after the filming ended, on August 12, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Lany Joy. Lindsey posted a picture of the newest little Jackson on her Instagram account. In the post, she wrote, “Our little Lany joy arrived late Tuesday evening. We are so so in love already. 💕”
