In New York for media interviews about the new season of his show, “Flipping 101,” longtime HGTV star Tarek El Moussa was “caught off guard” by questions about attending couples therapy with his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, she told her social media followers on April 2, 2025.
Posting two videos to her Stories, Heather said she and Tarek hadn’t realized there was so much media buzz about comments she made on the March 27 episode of the “Scrubbing In with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad” podcast — enough so that Tarek was asked to comment on it. During her podcast appearance, Heather shared that she and Tarek regularly attended couples’ therapy to discuss various issues, including whether to have another baby.
Shocked that Tarek’s now being asked to comment further while doing press for “Flipping 101,” Heather said, “They’re asking him about our therapy sessions! I’m like, ‘You guys, it’s like, not that serious.'”
Heather Rae El Moussa Says ‘There’s Nothing Wrong With Therapy’

Married since October 2021, Heather and Tarek welcomed their son Tristan in January 2023. She has been open about wanting more children, but Tarek — who also shares 14-year-old daughter Taylor and nine-year-old son Brayden with first wife Christina Haack — hasn’t been so sure.
On the “Scrubbing In” podcast, Heather explained, “I’m 37. I’m turning 38 this year. So for me, it’s kind of like now or never in a way. Not because you can’t have babies older, but I don’t want to be 40 having babies still ’cause it’s a lot. It takes up a lot of your time, a lot of your life, and the kids are my priority over myself. So I want to do it, get my body back. And it took a long time. It’s hard.”
Heather also shared on the podcast that she and Tarek began going to couples therapy in late 2024, which has helped them “communicate” about the possibility of expanding their family — a point that countless media outlets have picked up on.
In her April 2 Instagram videos, Heather said, “My poor husband, he is in New York. He’s doing press for his show, ‘Flipping 101,’ and he was on the news yesterday. I don’t know which one, but they asked him about me and him in therapy to discuss having another baby. And he was like, so caught off guard!”
Noting that it all stemmed from her recent podcast interview, she explained in her videos, “We talked about real life things and I was like, ‘Oh yeah, we go to couples therapy every other week just to, like, talk through things, communicate, you know, better our relationship.'”
She continued, “There’s always room to better (things). We’re two different people, we’re in a marriage and, you know, there’s nothing wrong with therapy. I think it’s amazing. I think we should have done it before we got married, I just feel like it’s so healthy.”
Heather Rae El Moussa Says Family Planning is Just ‘One Aspect’ of Therapy Sessions
Heather went on to say she had “no idea that the press was out there saying that we’re in therapy” and that was irritated that she and Tarek being at odds over having another baby had become a “clickbait” topic in the media.
Noting that she hadn’t read any of the articles, she said, “It’s like, you guys, there’s so many other things that we talk about. That’s just one aspect.”
“He was so caught off guard,” she reiterated about Tarek’s interviews. “It’s like on the news and they’re asking him about our therapy sessions! I’m like, ‘You guys, it’s like, not that serious. Like, it’s 2025 — it’s a normal thing and it’s good for a relationship. It’s not a negative thing.”
In late February, Heather told EntertainmentNOW that she and Tarek balance each other out, between him being high-energy and impulsive while she tends to be highly organized and “motherly.”
“I feel like I’ve always kind of been that way,” she said, “even before I was raising the kids and had my own son. I’ve always been … the organized one. I’m a very Type A person, and I knew his personality when I met him.”
The third season of “Flipping 101” premieres on HGTV on April 3 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
