HGTV Couple to Finally Return With New Season After 2 Years: ‘It’s Happening!’

Nearly two years after HGTV aired the first season of “Fix My Frankenhouse,” the show is finally set to return on April 2, 2025.

“Fix My Frankenhouse” had a brief but successful first season — comprised of six episodes — that aired in the spring of 2023. The show follows married couple Denese and Mike Butler as they renovate homes with “wonky layouts” in the Boston area.

On March 5, when HGTV announced the premiere date on social media, fans expressed relief and Denese commented on Instagram, “🔥🔥🔥it’s happening!!!”

‘Fix My Frankenhouse’ Season 2 Will Feature 8 Episodes Filmed in Boston Area

When HGTV announced in January 2024 that “Fix My Frankenhouse” had been renewed, the network did say it wouldn’t premiere until early 2025. It’s been a long wait for many fans of the show who expressed their relief on social media once the April 2 premiere date was revealed.

“I have been WAITINGGGGG,” one wrote on HGTV’s Instagram post.

Another commented, “Yes,! awesome I’ve been wondering when you’re coming back on!”

Mike is a third-generation contractor, according to the Boston Globe, and Denese is the founder of interior design studio My Perfect Vignette. They’re raising three young kids in Boston while transforming homes that have been poorly updated in the past with “odd additions and piecemeal redesigns,” according to a press release from HGTV.

The second season will feature eight episodes that document the Butlers fixing “Frankenstein” houses with “wonky layouts, misplaced staircases and maze-like hallways” by modernizing the floor plans while keeping the older homes’ original charm.

‘Fix My Frankenhouse’ Season 2 Premiere Will Show Mike Butler Leaving His Job to Focus on Renovations Full-Time

For the season 2 premiere of “Fix My Frankenhouse,” HGTV followed the couple as they decided that Mike would leave his corporate job and “commit full-time to their growing home renovation and design business.”

In an Instagram post on January 1, Mike vulnerably shared, “Last year brought on several challenges that has stretched me. I quit my job and went all in working with @denesebutler. I started coaching my son’s basketball team and more importantly, I’ve had a lot more time to spend with family. Above all else, I am so thankful to God for sustaining us through the ups and downs the last year threw at us.”

The first house the Butlers tackle in season 2 includes “wasted spaces, mismatched kitchen cabinets and a dangerous spiral staircase,” HGTV said. But the Butlers manage to transform the house to feature a dream kitchen complete with a “kids’ drop zone” and an island that doubles as a dining room table.

The couple’s dads, master carpenters John Butler and Peter Doyle, will also appear throughout the season, per HGTV, to help build “one-of-a-kind pieces” for the renovations, from custom cabinetry to repurposed furniture.
