HGTV fans have practically watched Drew and Jonathan Scott grow up before their eyes, given that the Property Brothers have been on the air with their various home renovation shows since 2011.
When Drew and Jonathan first hit the airwaves, they were eligible bachelors in their early 30s. Now 47 and both raising kids in Los Angeles, the identical twins are recognized almost everywhere they go — but fans can differentiate them because Drew has a beard, while Jonathan is typically clean-shaven or sporting light stubble.
Though they may have aged since those early days at HGTV, one thing viewers won’t see either of them sporting on HGTV is gray hair, they pointed out during a SiriusXM interview with Andy Cohen on July 11, 2025, admitting they both have to dye their hair to keep the network happy.
Drew & Jonathan Scott Say HGTV Don’t Want Them to ‘Look Older Yet’

Early in their conversation on “Andy Cohen Live” to promote the 10th season of “Celebrity IOU,” Cohen asked Drew if he colors his brunette beard.
“I probably have more gray than you do,” Drew told him. “I just dye it every three weeks.”
“I just came home from a Europe trip, so for three weeks I didn’t shave,” he continued. “So I had, like, this big Santa beard. And then I dyed it just before coming back to (do) press.”
When Cohen asked if he also dyes the hair on his head, Drew replied, “I do. It’s mainly because the network says they’re not ready for me to look older yet.”
When Cohen then asked if Jonathan also dyes his hair, he replied, “I do. I started going gray before he did … I actually am totally fine with the silver look, but the network was always like, ‘No, we’re just not ready.'”
Jonathan, who later noted that he started going gray at 18, did let his hair go gray during COVID lockdowns. He shared the result social media just before actress Zooey Deschanel, whom he’d been dating for seven months, colored it at home for him in April 2020. They eventually got engaged in 2023, but have yet to marry.
“She cut and colored my hair and did an incredible job,” he told People at the time. “Better than I think the salon could do it.”
Drew & Jonathan Scott Say Their They’ve Never Used Other Hair Treatments
Fascinated by their thick locks, Cohen circled back to talking about the Property Brothers’ hair later in his July 11 interview with them, asking whether either used “Propecia or any hair treatment.”
Both brothers answered no, and Drew said, “My dad’s 91 and hasn’t lost any hair, so I hope I have that.”
In 2023, Jonathan posted a TikTok in which he applied a filter that gave him gray hair and a bushy beard, writing, “Bring on the Silver Fox, I’m ready 🤣#CapCut #SilverFox #OldFilter”
Many fans seemed to love the look, filling the post with supportive comments, including one who wrote, “you look great now and even more when you get to Silver Fox 🦊🦊🦊 Meawww 🥰🥰”
But, much like the HGTV execs, others preferred that he keep coloring his hair, with one fan emphatically writing, “No, no, no! Stay the way you are!!”
