HGTV stars Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt wrote their names in the history books when they won the second season of the network’s hit renovation competition series “Rock the Block” in 2021. While the couple have gone on to judge multiple episodes of the series in following seasons, would they ever want come back to compete?
Brian and Mika chatted with EntertainmentNOW on December 17 to talk about their holiday collaboration with Louis Jadot wines and No Story Lost, and shared if they would come back for a potential “Rock the Block” all winners season.
“I’m going to pass, it’s a hard pass for me,” Mika told us. “Once I have accomplished something – and you know what happens? This is probably me being a pessimist, but – if you go back and do it and you don’t win the second time, it’s the moment you’re going to remember instead of the first victory. So I’m like, ‘Look, I don’t want to mess it up. That story’s been written, and it’s in the vault.”
Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt Cast Doubt on All Winners Season of ‘Rock the Block’
While Mika gave a hard “no” to a possible return to “the Block,” Brian was into the idea, though he admitted there wouldn’t be many volunteers from other seasons willing to compete.
“Okay, so I’m very competitive, as you’ve probably realized,” Brian said. “And we’re friends with every team that won ‘Rock the Block’. And we’ve talked to all of them, we’ve asked them the question, ‘Hey, would we ever do an All Stars?’ And I hate to say it, the only people that agreed to probably do it again is Mike Jackson [from ‘Married to Real Estate’] vs. Brian Kleinschmidt. So it would be like a 1-on-1 showdown.”
Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt Say ‘Rock the Block’ Used to Be the Hardest Thing They’ve Ever Done
It doesn’t come as a complete surprise that the Kleinschmidts wouldn’t want to return as competitors, as “Rock the Block” has a very fast-paced, demanding filming schedule, that requires teams to be mentally and physically dedicated to designing and executing their renovations on a tight timeline.
“We said back then [when we won] it was the hardest thing we had ever done, not just on HGTV but in our lives,” Brian said of the experience. He went on to share that “Rock the Block” has been dethroned as the hardest thing he’s done, adding, “I will say, that has changed after we did ‘100 Day Hotel Challenge’. That is now the hardest thing we have ever done. Just working with all the talent, the two different hotels, the timeline. It was insane.”
“100 Day Hotel Challenge” followed Brian and Mika as they took on the renovations of two nearby motels along the beach in North Carolina. Featuring a rotating cast of network stars, the Kleinschmidts competed to add the most value to their hotel while honoring the owner’s wishes to keep some elements the same.
