Fans of HGTV stars Ben & Erin Napier know that the couple’s young daughters are the center of their world.
So it may come as quite a shock to find out that kids evidently weren’t always in their long-term plans.
Ben & Erin Napier were the guests on Christian podcaster Annie F. Down’s June 9 podcast. During the hour-long conversation, Ben told Annie, “We both have shifted our focus to the girls completely, which is something that is crazy because neither one of us were like…we weren’t looking to have kids. Like it was not a.. not that we didn’t want kids.” “I wanted to, but I was scared,” Erin chimed in. Ben continued, “I was of the mindset, you know, I grew up with three brothers, I have lots of nieces and nephews, if you want to [looking at Erin] great, if you don’t, we’ll be good.”
Now that 7-year-old Helen and 4-year-old Mae are here, that’s a different story. “I cannot imagine a second that they don’t exist,” Ben went on.
Ben & Erin Napier Are ‘Always Expecting the Road to Turn’
Since the arrival of their two daughters, Erin says her mind remains focused on her girls, saying she rarely prays about work.
But when she does, she says she asks God to show her if this is the road they’re still supposed to be on.
“We’re always expecting the road to turn,” she told Annie. “This is gonna end,” added Ben. “That’s what it was. That’s how this all started,” Erin elaborates. “I owned a wedding stationery company and he was a youth minister. And when it was ending, he was a youth minister for ten years and he just felt like it was ending,” she said. “He turned in his resignation and five hours later, we got a message from HGTV.”
“It didn’t feel like we were gonna make a show,” Erin clarified. “It just felt like an affirmation that ‘you’re gonna be ok.'” “You’re doing the right thing,” added Ben.
“In this season of life, having young children is all-consuming,” said Erin.
Erin & Ben Napier Reveal that ‘Home Town’ Seasons are Mis-Labeled
Erin and Ben say fans of their main HGTV show “Home Town” only THINK they’re watching season nine.
The couple says somewhere along the way, the seasons got mislabeled.
“We’re in season nine or ten,” Ben said. “I don’t know what they call it,” Erin added. “We know we’re filming season nine.” “On paper, it’s nine,” said Ben. “But people think they’re watching season nine right now. It’s mislabeled. We don’t know why. No one knows how to fix it. It is what it is.” added Erin.
“They split a season,” said Ben. “They did a season, like, 7A, and 7B and it messed up everything.” “Seven B becomes eight,” Erin laughed.
