Ben and Erin Napier just pitched the perfect idea for another HGTV show. It has nothing to do with home renovation, but it would allow them to apply their knowledge in a fun and different way.
Ben & Erin Napier Pitch New Show: ‘It’s Our Obsession in Real Life’
On June 26, Erin took to Instagram to share an idea for a new HGTV show. With the hot summer taking a toll on them as they work on renovating homes, they thought a series with a cooler location could be just the thing.
While they wouldn’t be tackling home renovation and design, they said they could apply their vast knowledge while watching movies.
Erin noted in the caption, “Just saying, I would watch this all day, every day @hgtv @wbd.”
“Alright, I’m at work. It’s demo day,” Erin said in the video. “And it is so, so hot and so sweaty.”
“And I was thinking how fun it would be if we also made a show where Ben and I sit in a dark movie theater, like ‘Mystery Science Theater,'” she continued.
Ben added, “But instead of sci-fi movies, we watch old, like Nancy Meyers movies and, you know, like ‘Parent Trap.'”
Erin shared how they could incorporate their knowledge into the show. “We talk about the houses. And the set design,” she explained. “And why these characters live in these rooms and these houses, and what it says about the character.”
She added, “Because it’s our obsession in real life. Now what if we just made a show about it that you could watch.”
Ben added, “It’s pretty much the reason that ‘Home Town’ exists.”
Erin clarified, “HGTV has absolutely not said they want to make this show.”
She asked, “Don’t you think we should pitch that?”
Ben even has a name for their new show: “Mystery Home Town Theater.”
‘Home Town’ Fans Are Totally Into the Idea
Ben and Erin’s fans left a flood of comments in support of their show idea. “I would watch that! I loved ‘Mystery Science Theater’ btw … but talking about homes and scenery sounds awesome!”
Others confirmed it was a winner of an idea, with comments including, “Brilliant! Please make the pitch! Would love to see that come to fruition!,” “That would be too fun. I would watch,” “I would binge watch this show!,” and “Love it! Do it!”
“Love it! HGTV make it happen, please,” one fan wrote.
Some fans shared their ideas for the show, with one noting, “You could have actual set designers and props people to guest on your show.”
Others offered up movies they’d love to see on the show, including “What Lies Beneath,” “The Lake House,” “Dan in Real Life,” “High Society,” “Philadelphia Story,” and “The Holiday.”
