In a shocking update in his Instagram Stories on June 17, 2025, beloved HGTV star Keith Bynam revealed that “Bargain Block” — which was initially renewed for a fifth season — will not be returning. Here’s the latest…
Keith Bynum Says HGTV Originally ‘Greenlit’ 5th Season of ‘Bargain Block’
“Bargain Block” stars Bynum and his longtime partner, Evan Thomas, as they restore dilapidated homes in Detroit, and then sell them with the help of local real estate agent Shea Hicks-Whitfield. While answering questions submitted by fans in a series of Instagram Stories, Bynum answered one who asked when a fifth season of “Bargain Block” would air.
“So, I get this question a lot, and we do have a few more episodes coming out in August, actually, starting on Evan’s birthday,” he said, which would put the episodes beginning to air on August 20.
“But they are the remainder of season four,” Bynum continued, “because they did not renew the show for season five. So, it’s a long story, but they originally greenlit it and then — I guess that was back in December. Then they decided in February, after we got everything ready for season five, that they weren’t going to do it.”
“So, it threw us into a bit of a crazy financial tailspin,” Bynum admitted. “And the last three, four months, we’ve been trying to just figure it out. So we’re doing client work and got some other stuff going on, but it’s been — oh, man, it’s been wild.”
The decision not to renew “Bargain Block” will likely be a shock for viewers, given the popularity of the show and its impact on revitalizing Detroit neighborhoods.
‘Bargain Block’ Cast Has Been Diving Into New Opportunities Without HGTV Filming
To make up for the sudden lack of a show to film, Bynum and Thomas have taken on individual client projects in various cities in 2025 — home design undertakings that they didn’t have time to take on before. In April, Bynum told TV Insider that filming the series typically took up 42 weeks of the year.
On May 29, the duo announced on Instagram, “We are happy to announce we’re once again opening up inquires to client projects far and wide! We are a full service design + build firm based out of Detroit, MI where we love to create beautiful and unique spaces. Whether you need a full gut renovation or a smaller “mini reno” to bring life to a previously renovated home, we offer a variety of solutions from construction and design, to design only services, or to just decorating. We take on projects across the country and can work with you.”
Meanwhile, Hicks-Whitfield continues to work in Detroit real estate and appear on local TV shows. EntertainmentNow has reached out to HGTV for comment.
