Exes Christina Haack & Ant Anstead’s Onscreen Reunion: ‘Feels Really Weird’

Fans tuning into the latest episode of “The Flip Off” on February 19, 2025, will finally get to witness a highly-anticipated onscreen reunion. In a surprise move, longtime HGTV star Christina Haack will call on her second husband, British-born TV personality Ant Anstead, to judge her next flipping challenge against her co-stars — her first husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa.

Anstead, who married Haack in December 2018, appeared on her HGTV show “Christina on the Coast” when they were together. The former couple welcomed their son Hudson in September 2019, but Haack filed for divorce the following summer. By 2022, the duo was entangled in a contentious and highly-public custody battle over Hudson. But Haack and Anstead revealed in September 2024 that they’d mended fences and had established a positive co-parenting relationship.

Still, many were shocked when Haack called Anstead to appear on “The Flip Off.” Haack posted an Instagram video on January 19 featuring Anstead talking about her “bizarre” request and captioned it, “All’s fair in love and war ….. tune in tonight: #theflipoff just got spicier.”

Fans Are Pumped for What Ant Anstead Called His ‘Weird’ Assignment

Standing in the home that Haack is renovating on “The Flip Off,” Anstead recorded a selfie video about appearing together again with his ex.

“Now this is kind of a bizarre day for me, because I got asked by somebody I know relatively well to step into a TV show and do them a favor,” Anstead said of Haack’s request that he judge the January 19 episode.

“And, yeah, it feels really weird,” he continued, briefly panning the camera to show Haack watching him from the couch in her home’s renovated living room. “Because that person is currently sitting on the couch, looking — pretending like she’s working — but that’s it, that’s all you’re gonna get. But I advise that you tune into the show. It’s called ‘The Flip Off.'”

Smirking, Anstead added, “It involves that lady and another couple. That’s not awkward, is it?”

Tarek weighed in by sharing the video in his Instagram Stories and writing, “It’s getting weird this week…👀😂”

Fans flooded the post with excitement, thrilled to see the former couple on good terms and working together again, including one who commented, “The plot twist we didn’t know we needed 😂”

Someone else’s comment, which quickly drew over 1,000 likes from others, declared, “I fkin love this! Adults that are adulting and not acting like children, even though they’re separated. I love it very mature, very demure.”

After their divorce and as they battled over custody issues, Anstead moved on with “Bridget Jones” actress Renee Zellweger and Haack married Josh Hall, who was initially part of “The Flip-Off” before they filed for divorce in July 2024.

Christina Haack Explains How She & Ant Anstead Got Back on Good Terms

In a preview shared by HGTV of the moment Haack decided to ask Ant to join “The Flip Off” as a judge, she proposed the idea to her design partner, Kylie Wing. Haack said she came up with the plan “because I just love to mess with Tarek — he’s gonna be so thrown off when I say that the judge is Ant.”

The clip also included an interview with producers, in which Haack explained her evolving relationship and past “issues” with Anstead.

“Ant is my second ex-husband,” she said. “He is also the father to my third child Hudson, and an engineer and a car builder. If Ant was a judge, because Tarek is aware because of some of the issues that Ant and I have had throughout the years, it’ll be a bit surprising and, let’s say, shocking.”

“Ant and I split up when Hudson was one, and now Hudson is five,” she continued. “Between the time of his first birthday and, I would say, fifth birthday, we did not communicate a lot. After Josh and I split up, I went over to his house to pick up Hudson ’cause I was taking him to a birthday party. And when I walked up to the door, he gave me a huge hug.”

“We hadn’t hugged in years,” she shared. “And he just said, ‘I’m so sorry for everything that you’re going through and I’m here for you no matter what you need. And it was a very nice moment, and we had a long talk after, and we decided to put all the B.S. aside and be good co-parents, like Tarek and I are, for Hudson.”

“The Flip Off” episode featuring Anstead as guest judge, called “The Ex Factor,” premieres on February 19 at 8 p.m. Eastern time and will re-air on February 20 at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
