J.K. Rowling is sharing new details about the upcoming Harry Potter series — and just how involved she’s been in bringing the magic back to life.

The 59-year-old author took to X on June 21 to give fans an update. After reading the first scripts, Rowling had high praise for what’s coming, calling the episodes “SO, SO, SO GOOD!”
J.K. Rowling Says She’s Not Writing the Series — But Is Working “Closely” With Writers
When a fan asked if Rowling herself was writing the new HBO series, the author responded.
The series is scheduled to begin filming later this year and is set to premiere in 2026, according to Deadline. Rowling then offered some clarification. “No,” Rowling replied, “but I’ve worked closely with the extremely talented writers.”

While she won’t be penning the scripts, Rowling made it clear she remains very involved behind the scenes, helping to shape the show’s creative direction.
Bloomberg previously reported that Rowling would stay involved with the project to help ensure it remained true to her original storyline.
Since then, it has been confirmed that she will serve as an executive producer, alongside Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod. Gardiner is also writing for the series, while Mylod is on board to direct several episodes.
Rowling Says the New Team Shares Her Passion
In a June 2024 post, Rowling revealed that she had personally “interviewed” both Gardiner and Mylod before signing on as EP — and gave them her full support.

“Both have a genuine passion for #HarryPotter,” Rowling wrote. “And having read Francesca’s pilot script and heard Mark’s vision, I’m certain the TV show will more than live up to expectations.”
Meet the New Trio: Harry, Hermione, and Ron
HBO revealed last month that casting is complete for the trio at the heart of the story.
Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will portray Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley, with all three stars making their debut as newcomers to the screen.
Filming for the new Harry Potter TV series is set to kick off this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.
An official release date for the series has not been announced yet.
It’s clear the beloved wizarding world still holds a special place in her heart — and fans can expect something fascinating when the new series finally hits screens.
