How Tyler Hynes Helps Other Actors Behind-the-Scenes: He’s Such a Sweetie

Tyler Hynes has become one of Hallmark Channel’s most beloved leading men since joining the network in 2018. The former “Letterkenny” actor has appeared in more than 20 Hallmark original movies, captivating fans with his charming screen presence and effortless chemistry with co-stars. But it turns out that Hynes is just as endearing behind the scenes — especially when it comes to helping newer actors feel comfortable on set.

Tyler Hynes’ Secret Trick to Help New Actors Relax

In a November 2024 interview with People, Hynes revealed a surprising tactic he uses when working with actors who are new to the Hallmark set.

“There’s a move I do sometimes,” he shared. “I shouldn’t tell this secret, but when somebody’s new on set, I’ll come and I’ll blow my line right away, just to sort of set the tone, put the bar down low.”

The Canadian actor explained that the goal is to show rookies that making a mistake isn’t a big deal. “Nobody cares. We’re all here on your team,” he said.

Hynes put this into practice while filming “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” alongside NFL supermom Donna Kelce. “Donna was a little overwhelmed,” he admitted. “[…] There’s a lot of moving parts, a lot of people talking to you in between [takes]. […] You can just see people being a little overwhelmed.”

The Hallmark Mainstay Is Beloved On and Off Camera

It’s not just newcomers who appreciate Hynes — his fellow Hallmark stars also rave about working with him. Jonathan Bennett, who co-stars with Hynes and B.J. Britt in Hallmark+’s “Groomsmen trilogy”, told People in July 2024 that their camaraderie on set is unmatched.

“The chemistry between me, Tyler, and B.J. is absolutely off the charts,” Bennett gushed. “We cannot get through a take without laughing and we get in so much trouble on set every day because all we do is mess with each other when we’re doing each other’s coverage for filming.”

Bennett also shared a lighthearted observation about Hynes’ signature toothpick accessory. “Tyler, I finally understand why he always has a toothpick in his mouth,” Bennett joked. “It’s because things always get stuck in his teeth after lunch.”

In addition to “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” reruns, he’s reuniting with Erin Krakow for “Christmas Above the Clouds,” part of Hallmark Channel’s 2025 Countdown to Christmas, and leading the “Groomsmen” trilogy for Hallmark+. With his mix of humor, generosity, and undeniable talent, Hynes continues to be a favorite both on and off screen.
