Nothing makes a Hallmark fan swoon quite like a Tyler Hynes kissing scene.
Hynies — the actor’s devoted fan base — have debated about his best kiss on Reddit, his onscreen smooches have been turned into GIFs, and even co-star Rhiannon Fish admitted to Just Jared she was “really happy” she got multiple kissing scenes with Hynes in their 2023 flick, “A Picture of Her.”
While attending the Christmas in a Small Town fan convention in Georgia from July 25-27, 2025, Hynes sat down with Hearts of Stars podcast host Jennifer Silliman for an onstage chat, during which he revealed what goes into preparing for those sweet and sometimes steamy scenes.
Tyler Hynes Reveals He Always Asks ‘Permission’ Before Kissing an Actress
During their onstage chat, one of several that Hynes offered to conduct with podcasters at the event, Silliman asked Hynes to describe the “secret sauce” that goes into a good kissing scene.
“Well, it usually begins with asking permission,” Hynes said, and when he heard people in the audience laugh, he smiled, “I’m not even joking.”
“This is kind of how it goes,” the “Three Wise Men” star continued. “I generally go, like, ‘Look, whatever you’d like, whatever you wouldn’t like, you know, please let me know your comfort level or whatever you’d like to do at this moment.’ I usually start there. And you get all kinds of answers”
When Silliman asked Hynes for the “most interesting answer” he’s received, he replied, “Well, you get some that are like, ‘What are you doing? Just slap it on me!’ And you’re like, ‘Oh, okay!’ And then some people who appreciate, you know, being asked and you can tell they’re a little bit nervous, they’re a little uncomfortable.”
Motioning behind him, Hynes quipped, “Um, sometimes their boyfriend will be right over here and you’re trying to be considerate to that.”
“But honestly,” he continued, “I know how important (the kissing scenes) are to all of you. It’s a very personal thing for my co-stars. So, I just try to make sure that everybody’s taken care of in those moments — and try not to eat anything disgusting prior.”
Tyler Hynes Shared a Kissing Scene Gone Wrong at Another Fan Convention in 2022
In April, Hynes shared a funny 2022 video via his Instagram Stories that one of his diehard fans found in her archives from a panel at Christmas Con Pasadena in 2022. Fan Sylvia Gallegos captured Hynes, sitting by actors Autumn Reeser and Jesse Metcalfe, telling the crowd about a kissing scene gone wrong.
Hynes told the audience, “One of the first movies I did was with a lovely human being named Taylor Cole — you guys know Taylor Cole?”
Given that Cole has starred in nearly 20 Hallmark movies, the audience cheered in response.
“Yeah, so when we were doing our kissing scene,” Hynes said, “there was a moment when she was leaning into kiss me and I thought we’d kind of done our thing and were wrapping it up. And I sort of leaned back, and she just kept coming forward.”
Reeser and the crowd laughed, and Hynes continued, “I wasn’t sure what was happening. But what I realized was … she was tripping over something that was on the ground, and so I was kind of catching her with my face.”
Cindy Busby, who co-starred with Hynes in 2019’s “My Boyfriend’s Back: Wedding March 5,” was also on the panel and joked, “Wait, are you the reason I was tripping so much (on set)?”
“Probably,” Hynes said dryly, and then added, “The movie was called ‘Falling For You’ so I don’t know if she was…”
