The Hallmark Channel’s newest Countdown to Christmas movie, “The Christmas Quest,” premieres on Sunday December 1, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. The movie stars Lacey Chabert and Kristoffer Polaha. Read on to learn all about where the movie was filmed and behind-the-scenes stories.
‘The Christmas Quest’ Was Filmed in Iceland, Including on a Glacier
According to Hallmark’s press materials, “The Christmas Quest” was filmed in Iceland. In fact, the movie was one of the first Christmas films that Hallmark officially announced.
Polaha wrote to Chabert about the experience: “You led by example with grace, kindness, professionalism, and a touch of humor. You absolutely crushed it, Lacey, and I’m so excited for your fans to see the work – it’s AMAZING! And proud to be a part of this film.”
According to 4Filming, one of the filming locations is in Reykjavík, Iceland. Skólavörðustígur 10, 101 in Reykjavík is in the capital city and has colorful buildings that can make a great backdrop for the film.
Another filming location was the the Perlan museum in Reykjavik.
Polaha shared on Instagram: “We went to work on a glacier. Watch til the end to see how that worked out.”
Polaha also shared a video about his experience in Bjork, another filming location, and noted that his son celebrated his 18th birthday there and they got to see the Northern Lights.
He teased that this movie is going to “blow your minds.”
Chabert posted that filming the movie was an “amazing adventure.”
Girls Gone Hallmark reported that Marcy Holland, the screenwriter for the movie, brings an impressive resume to the film. With 47 writing credits, her work includes last year’s hit “A Biltmore Christmas,” “A Zest for Death: A Hannah Swensen Mystery,” and the recent “My Dreams of You.”
Parade pointed out the differences in heights between Chabert and Polaha, writing: “Considering the height difference between the co-stars—Chabert is 5’2″ and Polaha is 6’3″—we imagine a lot of apple boxes were used while filming The Christmas Quest.”
Meet the Cast
Hallmark’s synopsis reads “An archeologist and her ex-husband, an expert in ancient Norse languages, are sent to Iceland at Christmas time to search for the legendary treasure of the Yule Lads. When others join in the hunt, the pair find themselves swept into a thrilling adventure as they race to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.”
Lacey Chabert plays Stefanie. According to her bio, her big break came with a cough syrup commercial, followed by her Broadway debut as young Cosette in Les Misérables. In 1998, she made her feature film debut as Penny Robinson in “Lost in Space.”
Chabert’s career spans an impressive array of roles, including Claudia on “Party of Five” and numerous TV movies, such as Hallmark classics like “Moonlight in Vermont,” “A Royal Christmas,” “Christmas Waltz,” and “Haul Out the Holly.” Many films, including “Sweet Carolina” and “The Wedding Veil” trilogies, also feature her as an executive producer.
In addition to her Hallmark romances, Chabert has been a standout in the “Crossword Mysteries” franchise and “The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango.”
On the big screen, Chabert is perhaps best known for her role in “Mean Girls.”
Kristoffer Polaha recently appeared on the big screen in “Jurassic World Dominion” for Universal Studios and as Handsome Man in Warner Bros.’ “Wonder Woman 1984,” according to his bio. Polaha is also well known for his starring role in The CW’s “Life Unexpected.” He’s had recurring roles in “Get Shorty,” the limited series “Condor,” and more. His TV credits include “Backstrom,” “North Shore,” “Miss Guided,” “Made in Jersey,” and a multi-season recurring role on “Mad Men.” Polaha is also a favorite on Hallmark, starring in films like “We Wish You a Married Christmas.”
In addition to his TV work, Polaha has appeared in indie films. He recently wrote, directed, and starred in the short film “A Work of Art.”
