Rachael Leigh Cook & Freddie Prinze Jr. to Reunite in New Christmas Movie

Actress Rachael Leigh Cook’s next Christmas movie is poised to be all that, as the Hallmark Channel star reunites with Freddie Prinze Jr. The new holiday movie will mark the duo’s first onscreen reunion since their iconic 90s rom-com “She’s All That,” Deadline reported on May 29, 2025.

Still in development and titled “The Christmas Affair,” the movie will also reunite Cook and Prinze Jr. with producer Jennifer Gibgot, who was co-producer on 1999’s “She’s All That.” When Gibgot wrote on Instagram that she “can’t wait” to get to work, Cook replied, “same!!! And just to say it publicly: all of this was Jen‘s idea!!”

But viewers shouldn’t expect a reunion of Cook and Prinze Jr.’s former characters, Laney and Zach. Rather, Deadline reported, the film will feature the iconic duo as “superstar sportscasters” Natalie and Gabe, who “form an unlikely alliance after their spouses are caught cheating weeks before Christmas.”

When and where “The Christmas Affair” will be released hasn’t been announced, but there’s a solid chance it will premiere on Hallmark Channel. The movie is being produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, which is also behind numerous Hallmark movies and the Hallmark series “The Way Home” and “The Chicken Sisters.”

Cook signed a major deal with Fox’s MarVista Entertainment in 2023, per Deadline, working with the company to develop and star in multiple projects, including Hallmark’s “Sisterhood, Inc.,” which premiered in February, and her 2023 Hallmark movie “Rescuing Christmas.”

Other recent MarVista movies produced for Hallmark Channel include 2024’s “Confessions of a Christmas Letter” and “‘Tis The Season to Be Irish.”

Can Rachael Leigh Cook & Freddie Prinze Jr. Reignite Their 90s Onscreen Chemistry?

“She’s All That” remains a classic for many movie lovers because of Cook and Prinze Jr.’s undeniable onscreen chemistry as wide-eyed teens in the movie, including Zach’s reaction to Laney’s transformation and their passionate kiss at the prom.

According to Deadline, the duo’s new characters in “The Christmas Affair” will begin to fall for each other as they juggle their emotions over their failed relationships and Christmas chaos.

In a statement, Fox Entertainment Studios’ Head of Scripted Hannah Pillemar said the company is “excited to grant the Christmas wish of countless holiday romcom fans with the long-awaited reunion of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. This iconic couple stole our hearts over 25 years ago, and we are grateful to work with them on this all-new romantic comedy filled with holiday magic.”

In an Instagram post about the new movie, Cook wrote, “I ❤️ Freddie, my 🦊 FOX Family, New York and Christmas🎄 so I could not be more excited to announce this !!!”
