Hallmark Star Would Love to See Kevin McGarry on Great American Family’s ‘When Hope Calls’

Hallmark fans love watching Kevin McGarry as Nathan Grant on Hallmark’s hit series “When Calls the Heart.” But one Hallmark star has said she hopes Nathan might appear on Great American Family’s “When Hope Calls” again as well.

“When Hope Calls” is the spinoff of “When Calls the Heart.” And while the first season aired on Hallmark, the show eventually was picked up by Great American Family. A Christmas special aired on GAF, with special appearances by Lori Loughlin and Daniel Lissing.

This year, season 2 aired on Great American Family and starred some Hallmark alums that fans are familiar with, including Cindy Busby, Christopher Russell, and Trevor Donovan. Several cast members from season 1 did not return.

Busby Hopes Nathan Grant Might Come Back to the Series

In an interview with Movieguide, Busby said she’d love to see McGarry return to “When Hope Calls” in a guest role in the future. Nathan Grant was in four episodes of the first season of “When Hope Calls,” back when it was part of the Hallmark network.

Busby told Movieguide: “Maybe a Mountie [from When Calls the Heart could guest star.] I mean, I did a movie years ago with Kevin McGarry (Nathan Grant). He’s such a great guy. We laugh all the time. He’s just funny. It’d be fun to get to work with him again, so I could see that for sure.”

The series hasn’t been confirmed yet for a third season, but season 2 ended with a cliffhanger that set the show up for a return.

Busby and McGarry starred together in “Autumn Stables,” which premiered in 2018. The synopsis reads, “After her husband’s death, Autumn sells her ranch to Jake expecting nothing will change; however, Jake has ulterior motives with the land and her heart.”

Busby has a long history with Hallmark, including starring in movies like “Hearts Down Under,” “Romance in the Air,” “Love in the Forecast,” “Chasing Waterfalls,” “A Godwink Christmas: Meant for Love,” “Follow Me to Daisy Hills,” “Wedding March 5,” “Hailey Dean Mysteries,” and more.

More recently, she starred in the “Unwrapping Christmas” series in 2024 and in “A Whitewater Romance” in 2024.

Jack Had a Bittersweet Message for Elizabeth on ‘When Hope Calls’

For When Hope Calls’ Christmas special in 2021, Lissing made a special appearance as the ghost of Jack. In the two-part episode, he appeared to Abigail (Loughlin) with a message for Elizabeth.

He said, “Abigail, can you get a message to Elizabeth for me? … Let her know that I’m happy she’s moving on with her life. And let her know she’s doing a fine job with Little Jack and I could not be prouder of both of them.”
