Hallmark alum Cameron Mathison and his family pulled together to navigate an emotional farewell. The “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” star took to Instagram to share an update with fans and, at times, he held back tears as he did so.
In January, Mathison’s family home burned to the ground during one of the California wildfires. In his new update, Mathison showed how the property currently looks and revealed his family’s plans to say goodbye to what once was in preparation for starting a new chapter.
Cameron Mathison & His Family Let Go of ‘What Once Was’ to Make Room for ‘What’s Ahead’
On August 22, Mathison shared an emotional video on his Instagram page. In the caption, he wrote, “On the ground where our house once held us — saying goodbye to what once was and opening our hearts to what’s ahead.”
Mathison continued, “We let go of the past and released it all — making space for what’s to come.”
The video showed Mathison at the property where his beloved family home once stood. The burned debris has been removed, and the land is ready to be utilized for a new home and a new chapter.
As he filmed, Mathison acknowledged, “Every time I come up to the property where our house once was, it looks different.”
Mathison continued, “There’s more death, and it seems like a different place altogether.” He filmed ahead of what he, his estranged wife Vanessa Mathison, and their two kids planned to do together as something of a “goodbye ceremony.”
The actor explained, “We’re going to talk about our memories and just have a little bit of quiet time in silence.” In addition, Mathison noted, he bought a small plant to have with them that would signal “a new beginning to mark a new chapter for hopefully rebuilding.”
“It’s a little hard to look at, but [there’s] lots to be grateful for,” Mathison admitted, as he held back tears.
The Family Said Goodbye With Memories, Music, and Tears
Mathison added some additional glimpses into the family’s goodbye via his Instagram Stories. “Saying goodbye with memories, silence, tears, and music,” he shared. The photo he included showed a couple of blankets spread on the ground, and it was covered in pictures from when the house was at its prime, along with a few other trinkets.
Vanessa Mathison commented on the actor’s Instagram post, writing, “It was a beautiful grieving ceremony… an important piece of our healing.”
Hallmark and Great American Family colleagues commented to show their love for the family. Holly Robinson Peete shared a string of praying emojis, and Candace Cameron Bure wrote, “We love you!!”
A supporter shared, “This is extremely, extremely difficult to watch you and to listen to you talk about this unthinkable traumatizing personal disaster for your family and you and so many others.”
That commenter continued, “You built so much love surrounding this property and house. My deepest respect are with Vanessa, your daughter and son and you.”
Someone else added, “You are [an] absolute inspiration. Thank you for sharing this with us.”
