Hallmark alum Cameron Mathison has been quite open with fans about the difficulties he and his family have experienced in recent months.
In January, the family’s home was completely destroyed during one of the California wildfires. Mathison has shared numerous updates with fans about the loss of the home.
In a recent interview, Mathison revealed there was one particularly special thing they were able to find in the ashes on their property.
The Family’s ‘Casa Lula’ Plaque Survived the Fire
During the April 15 episode of “Good Morning America,” Mathison shared updates on what’s been happening in his personal life. He talked about how difficult the loss of the home has been, but he also noted one bright spot amid the devastation.
Recently, Mathison and a team of helpers scoured through the ashes of the property to see what could be recovered. Sadly, there was very little left after the wildfire tore through the area.
He noted that some figurines were recovered along with a few other cherished items. One discovery in particular means a great deal to the family.
While searching, a very special set of tiles was uncovered. The main tile was broken into several pieces, but otherwise relatively undamaged.
Mathison explained, “We actually named the house ‘Casa Lula’ after our kids… Lucas and Layla.” As Mathison spoke, “Good Morning America” showed a photo of the “Casa Luna” tiles that had been recovered.
Mathison continued, “So we came up with ‘Lula,’ and we did a lot of renovations on this place. This was like a passion project. And once we finished all that, we had this beautiful kind of tile thing with a little name on the front.”
After finding the broken, but otherwise undamaged tiles, Mathison said the family plans to “Put that back together, make a little art piece out of it.”
The Hallmark alum explained they want it “just as a memento to remember, but also to be able to move forward in the next phase, the next chapter.”

After Mathison’s “Good Morning America” interview, a clip about the family plaque was shared on the show’s Instagram page. Supporters flooded the comment section with love and support.
